“Cozy little hotel - incredibly friendly”
Reviewed 26 May 2013

We loved our stay. Cozy (small) room. Great breakfast. Friendly staff. Right on the shuttle route and across from a supermarket.

When it came time to leave, we had a super early bus (like 6 AM). The shuttle was not going to be running yet and the proprietress insisted on personally waking up that early to drive us in her own car to the bus station. What amazingly warm hospitality. Thank you!

This "pre"-Easter was our 3rd visit to the hotel, which was sold Autumn 2012. We almost immediately sensed that this was going to bee good, and it was!! They have started the restaurant all week except Sundays, and they are doing well. .We think the restaurant has allowed them to increase from a 2star to a 3 start. Well worth itWe had Raclette " as usual", but the dessert....oh-la-la!! Chocalate lava cake with sprbet - Worth the meal alone :)

A new sauna in in place and it is beautiful. Not tested, but definetely next time. Go there and stay? Do it, we do not think that you will be disappointed.

Next time I think we eat there more often.

Room Tip: If you will avoid "singing" people in the middle of the night, you have to afford the room...

I always try to equate value to both quality and price. I'll happily spend 250 Euros on dinner or $400 on a hotel room if I perceive it to be value for money. Which presents me with a problem when it comes to anywhere in Val d'Isere. I know that wherever I stay my wallet will be lightened and I'll feel slightly resentful at the value I've received, which is exactly the case with my 220 Euro per night stay in Hotel L'Avancher.

I'd sum up my stay as a teeny room with a bit basic and dated decor in a slightly tired looking little hotel, on the outskirts of town, but with a great breakfast.

If I'd stayed there for my whole holiday, then I think I'd start to find the place rather claustrophobic.

Room Tip: Try to avoid getting a room on the second floor as the narrow steep staircase is a right pain.

Hello,

Thank you for your review.

We know that the rates in Val d'isère are really high. However, our hotel is in the lower part in the rates scale in Val d'Isère. Moreover, we are working hard in the rooms to give them the comfort but keep the atmosphere of a real chalet.

Best regards,

We're just back after a week at L'Avancher starting 26th December. The hotel has a great location a few mins walk from the town centre handy for restaurants and shops yet away from the noise at night time when you want to sleep after a hard day on the slopes. There is a ski hire shop opposite the hotel, Iseran Sport 2000, which is great and the slopes are literally a few mins walk away.
Fred and his team were fabulous and nothing was too much bother. Breakfast is plentiful with a very warm and friendly hostess and we ate at the hotel restaurant one evening during our stay which was probably the best meal we had out of all the restaurants we frequented in Val D'Isere. We had free parking just at the front of the hotel which is where the ski room and lockers are located which was extremely handy. Free wifi in our bedroom which was fast complemented our stay. Highly recommended and we would stay again.

I stayed for just under a week arriving on the 14th December for 5 nights. The hotel is just outside the village centre and is approximately a 10 minute walk to the bottom of the lifts. The hotel itself is small with approximately 17 rooms and is in the alpine style. I absolutely loved it and will definitely be returning. It was actually hard to fault. Frederick and his team could not have been more helpful. The lift pass was sorted, the skis and poles were booked and arrived in the excellent ski room in the hotel and the car was booked into the underground car park in the village. I fully intended to visit the various restaurants in the village but the hotel was so comfortable that I ate at the hotel each evening and the breakfast was simple but again perfect and available early to get out for the first ski lift.

The accommodation is comfortable and clean with an en-suite bathroom and chalet style furnishings. If you are looking for 5 star Val D'Isere with 5 star prices then this isn't for you. If you are looking for fantastic value, great service and a welcoming host then this is it. I thoroughly recommend it.

This is a sensational little hotel for a short or potentially longer get away. Great little hotel run by some very friendly lovely ladies. Rooms were of a old size with all the amenities we required and easy to get to and from. Nice and easy access to the slopes and the local transport.

Would definitely return.

Our second visit to the hotel(we were there March 2011 as well). So wonderful to come back to a place you know and a staff who know you. Madame and her staff is doing their utmost to please their guests and they do it. The raclette on Saturday is the only "dinner" served, but we have to have it. This time we shared the next table with a French couple from Paris who told us that before ; madame had made very good dinner in earlier years. Pity we did not experience those. We have found our hotel in "Val" and will definitely go back to this hotel whenn returning for coming winters.

Room Tip: The rooms to the street may be a little noisy because of screenming and "singing" Englishm...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The hotel L'Avancher is a wooden chalet, built in 1949 by a visionary, an ambitious construction worker for the Dam of Tignes. Signed over to Charles and Renee Kassenberg in 1958 it was immediately turned into a hotel, making it one of the oldest hotels in Val d'Isere. Their daughter Francoise, spent her childhood in this chalet, making her the natural successor. Today, Fred Monneret has taken over the reins, enhancing the authenticity and hospitality, two of the hotel's most important values. The hotel has 17 rooms, a restaurant, a living-room, a sauna, a ski workshop that turns into a mountain bike workshop in the summer. By the end of January, you can make the most of the sun on the large wooden terrace or the small garden. This chalet, full of history, is regularly renovated, allowing it to combine both authenticity and modernity. A five-minute walk from the town center and 50 meters from the bus stop, this chalet allows you to make the most of the ski resort's animations without having to endure the noisy nightlife. (See map) The slopes are five minutes away and you can ski directly back to the hotel, (depending on snow conditions at the beginning and end of season). ... more   less
