My husband and I had a wonderful stay in l’Avancher and I can wholeheartedly recommend the hotel to anybody coming to Val d’Isere. It is a small, intimate family owned hotel with all the good things that come with that. The owner and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Everybody speaks fluent English but was happy to make an effort to understand our French. Breakfast was amazing and super fresh. Because we were visiting Val d’Isere as part of a group who stayed elsewhere, we did not have dinner in the hotel and I imagine that was our loss. There are individual ski lockers assigned to each room and the ski room is easily accessible. There is a lovely little lounge with games and books and some toys and drawing materials for children. The hotel looked as if it was recently refurbished with a combination of modern and traditional furnishings. The whole place was designed very practically in terms of space and shelves etc. and everything was very clean. It is located on the main road which on our GPRS was called Rue de Prariond rather than Avenue de Prariond (as per the website) a 500 meter walk from the Tourism Info. The nearest stop for the “Navette Gratuite” that takes you to the slopes was les sthan 2 minuets / 100 meters walk.
We notified the staff that we would arrive late in the first night and as the reception would be closed, they emailed us an access code for the main entrance door. Upon arrival, we quickly found our keys an envelope addressed to us, with a welcome letter. This wasn’t just a standard letter; in it they referred to our telephone conversation a few days prior and re-iterated their offer to leave our car overnight in front of the garage, a space they had reserved for us. As it turned out, we were able to leave it there for our entire stay, having given the key to the owner so he could remove it if necessary. This obviously saved us a lot of money and hassle so was really nice. I was able to borrow a plug converter and my hot water bottle (for tea) was filled with a smile every morning.
I have only two criticisms: our room (no 7), at the front of the building on the first floor) was very small, it was difficult to manoeuvre when we were both there at the same time with our suitcases. In addition, the shower was a typical French handheld shower over the bad without a shower attachment or shower screen meaning the choices are between taking a bath or getting the entire bathroom wet.
If I am going back to Val d’Isère I will not hesitate to stay here again.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- "The Avancher spirit remains in a brand new setting. Built more than 60 years ago, the Avancher Hotel has completely been rebuilt during Summer 2017. Frédéric Monneret and his team have managed to reconcile the warm and friendly atmosphere of this historic cottage with the comfort of a hotel of today. The 37 rooms from 24 to 61 m² have got all the equipment for a cozy stay: king size bed, large flat screen TV, high-speed Wi-Fi, bath, refrigerator, safe, kettle... Nothing has been forgotten, a renowned restaurant where we kept the same recipe: a gourmet cuisine with fresh and local products. A bar with two atmospheres: wine bar on one side, lounge and fireplace on the other side. A spa with a Jacuzzi, 2 Saunas, a Hammam and a massage room, all with a breathtaking view of the mythical Bellevarde Olympic face, a children's playroom, a covered parking area with a Tesla charger located in the basement of the hotel. A 5 minutes’ walk from the center of the resort and 50 m from the free bus stop, you can enjoy the animations of the resort without undergoing its noise. In addition, you will return directly skis to the feet to the hotel. Finally, Frédéric and his team know how to make your life easier: they will organize your transfers or ski passes bookings.
