“Excellent location, friendly staff”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

My family and I passed Chrismas time there, the location is just perfect! It is fantastic for the children, they could come back by themself at the hotel as the "meeting point" is in front! The staff is nice and friendly, only thing, the children room was a bit small but ok.

Booked through Neilsen for the Christmas week and for the price and rating were very disappointed with the experience. The rooms allocated on street side beginning with '5' were tiny and dark. On arrival we found that the pillow cases had not been changed and requested fresh covers and later in the week after ordering room service tea, our tray was left in the room for two days. The breakfast buffet , compared with similar standard hotels we have previously stayed in at Val d'Isere, was limited and did not provide enough variety to start the ski day, (eg only one choice of cereals, no porridge, the hot food was always scrambled egg ) especially for a family. Likewise dinners, (we were on a half board basis), served up the same formula every evening (eg. choice of 1 meat or 1 fish main); on Christmas Eve we were kept waiting nearly an hour for our pre dinner drinks, a bottle of wine and a bottle of mineral water, (and we were early in the bar so it wasn't busy!) and when we sat for our Christmas Eve dinner it was served late, cold and was an experience we all said we'd rather forget! On the plus side, the sommelier was very friendly and knowledgable - but the wines were very expensive! The Spa treatments and staff were excellent. Oh, and check your bill carefully: the hotel tried to charge us for the Christmas meal that had been included in our package! In summary, over priced , poor food, tired decor but ideally located.

Room Tip: Book direct with hotel or research rooms clearly with hotel, avoid rooms beginning with '5'...

My husband and I stayed here during the last week of February 2013 and would highly recommend this hotel. The location is utterly perfect - right on the slopes and with town on the doorstep. The service was outstanding and almost equivalent to that of 5* places we've stayed. Our dinner waiter Sylvio and the sommelier both deserve a special mention for their attention to detail, warmth and professionalism. We stayed half board and were impressed enough with the nightly set menu (with choices for each course), that we never wanted to go a la carte. Our fellow diners who did go a la carte looked to also have fantastic meals. Breakfast was fantastic - a buffet that seemed to have everything you needed and more, ahead of a day skiing. The service across the hotel, from reception (who replied in French when you spoke in French - a rare treat in France), to the kitchen (adamant to make us a packed breakfast for a 4am departure), to the really great spa, was outstanding, friendly, helpful and far far better than some previous reviews have mentioned. We were deeply impressed.

The only small down point of our stay was our small room at the back of the hotel. It had a huge balcony and a fantastic bathroom but no tea/coffee making facilities and very few easy to access storage areas for skiing kit and clothes.

All in all a great week and we would definitely return although would specify different rooms and certainly none of those in the 500 range.

I am a bit suprised to see the very poor reviews. It was Ok. The room was small and dark, and breakfast was a bit of a jumble - e.g. milk miles away from cereal, butter along way from toast etc, but it was clean and efficient and I thought that the staff were friendly and helpful.

You can forgive a lot about a ski hotel as long as it is well located, and this one is perfect - right next to the slopes and just around the corner from the centre of town.

If the food and drinks are expensive, then eat and drink somewhere else - that's what we did, and there is plenty of choice just down the road.

Don't miss Dickies tea bar (a 10 minute walk) if you are in to clubbing. It doesn't get going until well after 12.00, and then you won't want to leave.

Great proximity to the slopes, but food is very average and attitude of the staff borders on unpleasant. Try to avoid at all costs. There are many nicer and better-value places to stay in val d'isere.

Just returned from a 6 day break with 5 friends. We all had the most amazing time. The hotel is in the most perfect position allowing you to ski and ski out.We stayed in 2 family room which were both very modern and of generous size. We found all the staff to be extremely accommodating. The food was of excellent quality and the sommelier were very helpful introducing us to local wines. All 6 of us will be returning to Le Brussels next season!

We stayed over New Year and were lucky to be in the Alps during the amazing snowfall at that time. The hotel is perfectly located - we had a great view over the slopes. The rooms are very small, however, and are not of four star quality. In fact, at this price level they are short of the expected standard (or at least would be anywhere other than a ski resort).

The restaurant is outstanding in terms of the quality of the food provided for adults but the children's options are extremely limited. It even proved beyond them to produce a pasta carbonara when it was clear thay had the ingredients to do so from the other dishes on the menu (i.e. other dishes included eggs, bacon and pasta). Given the calibre of the chefs and the prices being asked in the hotel generally, this should be well within the capbilites of the kitchen and the levels of service to be expected of a hotel such as this. Also, at lunch the hotel bends over backward to accomodate outside guests at the expense of residents. All public spaces were turned over to tables meaning there was no where for residents to sit, play cards/games etc (inclunding in the games area, from which we were evicted as more tables were set). This balance between pursuit of profit and satisfying your resident guests does not seem to be quite right yet.

It is impossible to generalise about the quality of the staff or service as it was deeply schizophrenic. Some members of the team were some of the best I ever come across in any hotel anywhere and others really weren't and were not of the calibre required by a hotel at this level.

It would be interesting to stay here for a short break out of high season - I suspect it would rate much better on many fronts.
