“Don't be deceived by the website”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2014

When our travel agent offered us two standard rooms at the Grand Paradis, we checked its website. The rooms looked well decorated and comfortable, so we made a booking. What the agent didn't tell us (or didn't know) was that these were SUBSTANDARD rooms and bore no comparison to those on the website. The rooms we were given were the equivalent of student accommodation (albeit with a balcony and good view of the slopes) - and even worse as the mattresses sagged in the middle and were so uncomfortable that the first night my wife slept on the floor and I woke up with backache. When we complained the next day, the mattresses were changed, but our daughter had to wait two nights for hers to be replaced.
Dreadful mattresses were only one of the shortcomings: the lavatory door in our room wouldn't close, the bathrooms needed refurbishment, the furniture was utilitarian, there were no waste paper baskets, our bath mat was frayed, and only on our third day were we given adequate towels, dressing gowns and slippers. To add to our discomfort, our daughter's room had an unpleasant smell, similar to urine. The hotel management's response to our complaints was 'That's what your agent booked', and there was no admission that the website was misleading. After four days, our daughter was moved into a pleasant single room in keeping with the website photographs. My wife and I were also offered a 'refurbished' room - but it was small, with no chairs or table and no room for our suitcases, so we stayed where we were.
The sad thing is that the hotel has one of the best locations in Val d'Isere with great views from its front rooms - but management doesn't seem to care that the hotel website offers a standard that is very different from our experience. Our agent gave us 200 euros compensation (although we we would have preferred the rooms on the website) and very, very reluctantly (and without an apology) the hotel agreed to waive charges of 80 euros.
Three other points. First, we had half-board and the food was good (apart from desserts, which were more pretentious and decorative than enjoyable) - but the menu was the same every evening and we became very bored with it. Second, the management didn't bother to tell guests about fireworks and other new year's eve celebrations in the village and it was only by chance that we found out about them. Third, the hotel bar is like a morgue and you will be lucky to find another person there.
The bottom line is that any hotel that misleads potential guests through its website and treats them arrogantly CANNOT BE RECOMMENDED, however good its location.

We came to hotel paradis via bookings .com on a late deal. Couldn't,t believe it's location, directly on the slops in the middle of town. The welcome was first class, the room was brilliant, they even upgraded us without us even asking. The staff couldn't do enough.
We we on half board, and the food was great. We didn't want to venture out too much as the hotel and staff made us feel so welcome.

Rooms. Large, airy with great balcony with views . Bath and shower great. Can't fault the service even with the housekeepers.

Feel our break was too short, would definitely come again.

I here the hotel is having a facelift this summer. Including spa and pool, will definitely look out for this. They do not need to improve at all on staff and location.

Thanks hotel grand paradis

Just arrived back from Val for New year and this season we stayed in the Grand paradis, great location.
The reception girls were lovely and very helpful and Caroline the Boss very great, the rest of the staff were very friendly.
I will say that the bed was the hardest we have slept in and our children ended up sleeping on the sofa!!, Very clean Hotel and we had our towels changed twice a day.
They are having a complete refit next season, so for good value and location this will be hard to beat, we hope they change the beds,
after staying in other hotels in town over the years the only thing we missed was a pool. I would recommend this hotel, we were half board but liked eating out especially at the Perdirx Balnche.

This really is the perfect location for a a great hotel if you want to ski in and ski out. The staff were the friendliest and obliging staff I have ever met in a hotel. We had half board which was ideal as it meant not having to think about where to eat when we had been skiing all day. We were celebrating two 60th birthdays and had the most delicious birthday cakes from the kitchen.
This location and hotel is really a must for avid skiers. The rooms were some of the cleanest and
well serviced hotel rooms we have ever had. We look forward to staying in the hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the slopes with a balcony are the best.

We are a group of 4 families that live in Belgium but from different nationalities, we stayed in the Grand Paradis hotel at Feb 2013, Our experience was excellent !!!, once we checked in we were all upgraded free of charge to the slopes facing rooms, this rooms have an amazing view. The service in the hotel was friendly, efficient and always with a smile, everything was possible and the staff always made sure we are happy. The maintenance of the rooms is on a very high standard. The location of the hotel is second to none, it was especially important for us since we all have kids and the ski school meeting point is just in front of the hotel.
One of the best experiences we had in the hotel was the food, we ordered the accommodation with half board. The staff was extremely flexible with the kids choice. The food the adults had was one of the best I had in any hotel.
All in all I highly recommend the hotel

Fantastic ski in ski out hotel, great location, authentically appointed rooms with great view.
Regarding food breakfast very disappointing with very basic selection not appetizing. Unlike their dinners which are really devine/fantastic. If anything brings them down it's inconsistent service from waiters, where some are very helpful and others have a very bad attitude and unfortunately it's the bad attitude you remember. If you don't speak French language is a problem.

This hotel has a prime location in Val d'isere and the food is very very good.
Service is pretty good and the rooms have great view over the ski tracks and mountains.
You won't be disappointed.
