“Very nice hotel, fully satisfied”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

I was fully satisfied of our choice to spend a long weekend at Le Bizzard during my first staying in Val d'Isere. Cozy and worm, excellent food, nice spa, children and animal friendly. Definitively worth a try.

This hotel is one of the best ski hotels I have ever been to. The hotel is great, and it is very charming and welcoming. It is close enough to the slopes so it not being ski in ski out is not a problem. The service is flawless and the staff was always ready to help. The breakfast is amazing and so is the restaurant. The pool and spa area is another plus.

Room Tip: The family rooms are a great option for large families like mine

We saw in the New Year at Le Blizzard during our annual family ski holiday. Having stayed at several other places, including the 5 Star Christiana, we thought we knew what to expect from Le Blizzard. We were wrong, this place knocks spots off anywhere else and by comparison the Christiana is like Fawlty Towers. Le Blizzard is the only truly 5 star hotel in Val D'Isere.
We were absolutely delighted by every aspect of our stay, from the courtesy of the staff to the outstanding quality of the food and everything in between. The staff were friendly, helpful and genuinely keen to do everything they could to make our stay more enjoyable, even if we decided at 6.30 that we wanted an 8pm dinner reservation in the town. The rooms are comfortable, not luxurious but better than you normally expect from ski accommodation, there was an actual double bed in our room, instead of 2 singles pushed together which is normal in ski resorts and the showers are hot, powerful and spacious. The rooms are a little overheated for our tastes, but that's easily remedied.

We made good use of the (surprisingly warm) heated outdoor pool and the lovely indoor Jacuzzi, and during a New Year's Day 'whiteout' my husband and I were able to work off our hangovers in the gym. Our teenage boys were more than happy to eat from the slightly more affordable but still excellent children's menu before heading off to do battle ion the pool table. This left the two of use free to overindulge on the delights of the A La Carte menu, the highlight of which was the 11 course New Year's Eve gala dinner, not a meal I'll forget any time soon.

But the highlight of Le Blizzard is undoubtedly the wonderfully atmospheric, effortlessly chic bar, which has been run by the same head Barman since it opened. It is clearly THE place for drinks in Val D'Isere, and it's amazing how quickly you become accustomed to the ridiculous prices. This place is NOT cheap and certainly not for any one skiing on a budget, but by day 3 we had decided €15 wasn't all that outrageous for a gin and tonic, and €90 for a bottle of champagne is fine, because after all It's Bollinger.

We will definitely return to Le Blizzard, it is unashamedly upmarket but not pretentious, which is a rare combination anywhere, especially in France.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel are smaller but have a mountain view. If going with kids at New...

I have not stayed at the hotel but have just spent the week at Val d'isere and did not spend one day without visiting the incredible bar there. It is very alpine chic and the staff, especially the head barman are very professional and blatantly love their job. (The head barman has worked there for 17years).
It is so comfortable and yet pleasantly busy in the evenings and the drinks are a real treat. Monkey 47 Gin and tonic especially hits the spot!
We will be back next year!

Just returned from a week stay at Le Blizzard.
Very pleasant cosy hotel with it's main attribute being the staff. Almost everyone was extremely pleasant and helpful.
We dined in the hotel restaurant every night on the half board package and in my view the food was to a very high standard. Food for our son was also of a very high standard. Breakfast buffet also very good.
Rooms are comfortable and clean.
The only negative we had was with noise. Initially we had a room on the first floor over the bar area, which was lively into the small hours on a Saturday night. (This wasn't the case through the week however).
Hotel were very understanding and offered us an alternative. We moved to another room higher up and generally all was good, but if you are a light sleeper, you can hear some noise from other rooms.
Lovely spa and small gym area.
Overall though, a great hotel, in a brillaint central location.

Room Tip: Try to avoid first floor, village facing rooms unless you are joining in lively bar activities!

We stayed February 2013, the snow was exceptional but irrespectively Le blizzard delivered in everyway. The location is perfect right in the heart of the town and although you cannot quite ski to the hotel it is only a very short walk to the lifts etc..... The spa and hot tub area are very well thought out and despite the hotel being full there it never felt overly busy. The staff were also lovely and very accommodating towards our young children. Food also excellent although the evening menu could be offer more selection. We will definitely be going back.

We stayed 5 days at Le Blizzard to enjoy snow before the end of the ski season. The staff was extremely polite, warm, and always ready to help (which should be the standard in a 5* but since it's not, it doesn't hurt to mention it).
Rooms are tastefully decorated, with large bathrooms and a balcony when upgrading. Whether facing the mountain or the street, it feels like a proper holidays. I'm not sure about the standard room, but would expect them to be on the smaller side.
The Hotel is situated right in the centre, so it's ideal for shopping or heading straight to the slopes. If you're going to a restaurant a bit further away, a private shuttle will graciously take you there, and back.
The hotel SPA is worth a visit, especially for the outside heated pool. Too bad it's only outside, but I guess you can't get it all... If you're not feeling brave enough, try teatime seating at at table in front of it or shelter inside in the lounge by the fireplace. The bar lounge also becomes a bit of a IT spot in the evening.
Also not to be missed: both restaurants.
Book upstairs is for semi-formal (it's a ski resort after all) dinning. Fares are creative while staying true to the traditional dish, with a mix of rich and subtle taste that makes it 1* worthy - which will never happened because the restaurant doesn't tick other required boxes (like a max number of seats, minimum number of staff and space between tables, etc.) As far as the food is concerned though, it totally deserves it! Also make sure you try deserts by pastry chef Hugo Sipp. The Apricot tart is to die for.
For a more Savoyard feel, head to the downstairs restaurant "La Luge". Raclette, fondue and other winter meals can be ordered, Chalet style.
At the end of your stay expect a hefty bill, especially in high season (5* are for the price, too). Absolutely worth every penny though. We'll definitely go back!
