Thanks, UCPA Val d'Isère. There I learnt how to ski and also put 3 other friends stand and skiing.

I went by a recommendation of a French friend of mine. I could not speak much French at that time. It was never a problem...

At UCPA they provide you full time ski lessons, material, 4 meals and accommodation... all for EUR 450/500!!!!!

I spent NEW YEAR'S EVE there for that price. How does that sound?

It was so great that I trained the whole season and came back the next year actually to teach ski to 3 friends of mine.

Amazing experience... amazing food... amazing bread... amazing meals...

Rooms are VERY simple. No free Internet. Not a great comfort. Shared bathrooms. But you are there TO SKI.

And you are sleeping in the biggest and best ski resort worldwide, for this price.

People are amazing. Staff is outstanding.

If you want a cheap and cheerful ski holiday, this is the place to go. We just came back from the UCPA in Val d'Isere having had a fantastic week. The food was superb, the instruction was very good and the ambience was great - very friendly and fun. The hostel is also well situated for the piste - we only had to carry our skis for about a minute to reach the snow. However, this is not the place to go if you want a luxury ski break - rooms are dorms, so you will be sharing with new people. Earplugs are essential. This is essentially a ski youth hostel with exceptionally good food and a great atmosphere.

We went to Val D'isere and stayed at the ucpa. I dont think id stay in the Ucpa again to be honest, the rooms where terrible! I'm all for a cheap room and dont expect much but these where plain awful! there was 4 staying in the room and it was too small. The staff were nice but werent helpful when the Wifi wasnt working. They had no interest in getting this working for anyone which was disapointing. food wise it was ok, plenty to choose from... poultry.. pasta etc,, plenty of fresh bread which was nice. I would 100% go back there for the snow, but i would stay somewhere else... for an extra small amount it would be worth staying elsewhere.. it was the only downer on the experiece..(rentel equipment was good though)

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

I´ve stayed in a couple of UCPA´s, and the ratio price / quality is really good.

I got a 3 bed room which was really small, and the heater wasn´t working in the best of conditions, but all the atmosphere and quality of the food made the staying worth it.

It´s a 5 minute walk to the lifts, and it´s got a bus stop just around the corner.

The slopes are amazing (best on the Tignes side).

Excellent centre, great atmosphere, and got to meet lovely people.

pros

Cheap
Friendly
All inclusive lessons which are worth it, you can switch throughout to make sure you benefit from
Very sociable but largely in the centre as opposed to town

Cons
Rooms are very basic, as you would expect for 600euros all inclusive, but can be noisy depending on your roommates.
Food was ok, but no good if you have specific intolerances
Security - only given a room locker and
lots of stuff went missing whilst downstairs in my week there. Code on doors largely ineffective as all left open all the time.

I would use again for the skiing and instruction but would not take valuables, and plan to eat out once our twice for variety.

After one of the best Geneva transfer journeys through Annecy arrived at the ucpa in val d'isere with no expectations, the food was great and staff extremely welcoming with no lengthy treks to ski shops to hire stuff as it is all on site at no extra cost. The bar has a voucher system but that is easy enough. Short walk (3 min) to town and sollaise lifts. Booked with action-outdoors who directed me to the transfer busses and informed me about a snow express for the. Next time I book up.

I went with Action Outdoors, with 10 other friends. We're all young professionals/students so it definitely appealed to our price range. There are so many things going for the hostel:

+ the atmosphere is great, everyone (regardless of nationality) is like-minded and friendly
+ the food is FANTASTIC, three course evening meal everyday (plus packed lunch - if you want it)
+ the rooms are spartan, but clean and were perfect for meeting new people
+ location is a short, short walk to the lifts.

Skis and lessons:

+Ski lessons are unbelievably cheap, so is the lift pass, get some lessons if you can. There are plenty of opportunities to have powder lessons, not just the standard parallel turns and slalom - higher level lessons are available!
- My skis weren't very sharp to begin with, but I got them changed easily.

I paid <£600 for essentially an all inclusive trip. BARGAIN! Would def do again. This is a format that works and has been clearly been honed to a tee.
