Stopped at La Galise for a long weekend at the start of Jan 2012 with friends.

Fantastic hotel providing B&B accommodation.

Rooms were excellent, much better than expected - with a bath and shower (over bath) in the bathroom and a separate loo.

Breakfast was perfect.

The staff were lovely and very helpful, as we arrived early on the Saturday morning after travelling to Bourg St Maurice on the overnight train, they offered us breakfast at no extra charge. Our rooms were not ready, but there were shower, changing and luggage storage available so we were fed and refreshed and on the slopes by 10am.

Hotel is more or less at the foot of the main lifts, great ski hire shop next door which gave 10% discount as we were staying at La Galise. Very central for wandering out at night to find a restaurant.

The bar area is cosy and welcoming.

Would definitely stay here again and recommend to all skiers.

Room Tip: We arrived early Saturday morning and had to queue for a long time to pay for lift passes - I think the hotel can sort this for you before you arrive so request this - or see if you can buy online.

Stayed here for a few days in Jan 2011. Hotel happy to take bookings for periods of less than a week. Basic room, en suite ok but shower very weak, so had to use (small) bath instead - a common experience for me in French ski resorts, so not a problem. There is a lively bar downstairs, and I did get some noise drifting up to my room, I suspect this affects some rooms more than others. Staff friendly and very helpful. If you want to find no frills spot away from the flash of Val d'Isere, this hotel is worth a look.

Once again stayed at this hotel for the february half term with my husband, teenage son (16yrs) & his friend. The hotel is excellently situated for the lifts to the mountain. Also centrally located for the town centre. The staff are friendly and the hotel is basic but clean & well run. A simple continental breakfast is served, with fresh bread, eggs, ham & cheese.
Would also recommend the Alexandra bar at the hotel, which is unpretentious with a good atmosphere and pool tables. It also houses the BAR 4 which serves excellent burgers and indian or thai curry- warning the thai curry is v hot. But good! A good all rounder.
Would also recommend JLA taxis for transfers.

Stayed here on a weekend ski break, booked last minute and they were very happy to provide a stay for a weekend only - which is quite rare in Val D'Isere.

Firstly, I was astounded by how good the location was. Although Val D'Isere is never cheap, this place was reasonably priced - so I was surprised it bang in the centre of the village and just 200 yards from the lifts. You could ski to about 50 metres from the front door.

The other best thing about this hotel was the service. The couple who run it couldn't have been more helpful, were very attentive, and just really friendly. This really makes a difference.

Wifi is available for 1 Euro for 23 hours.

There is no lift, so if you're on the third of fourth floor you might not like climbing the stairs.

Breakfast was excellent - continental buffet of a very good standard.

The bathroom was clean and modern. It had a hand-help shower in a bath, which wasn't as good as having a normal shower. There are showers downstairs, that you can use after you've checked out on the last day.

The hotel has a very good bar downstairs - 5 Euros for a beer - that is lively without being wild. But you've got dozens of options for nightlife and restaurants all on your doorstep anyway. There is also a small food takeaway downstairs - which I heard very favourable reports on from locals - the curry and burger are meant to be amazing, as the places has a very well respected local top chef running it.

You get 20% off at the hire shop across the road - which actually works out cheaper than booking online either directly or via Skiset in advance.

In short, a great place to stay - and several locals commented they advised visiting friends to stay there.

In one of the worlds top top ski resorts - Val D'Isere is top three ranking - and I will definitely return. You can get a return bus from Lyon airport for €90 - which departs several times a day including late evening - book via Altibus.
