“If you come by - car check in early”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Car parking is a problem in Baden-Baden. The Hotel does have an underground car park for 35 cars. However there are 110 rooms in this Hotel. If you arrive after 4 pm you are unlikely to be able to park you car in the Hotel Car Park, There is no on street parking anywhere near the Hotel,
The Hotel staff suggest that you park your car in the nearby Festival Hall car park. If an event is held in the Festival Hall this would not be an option as this car park is also full!
Rooms are very clean and comfortable and well equipped. Buffet Breakfast has a good selection,
However during peak times you might not be able to find a space to sit in comfort to consume your breakfast.

The hotel has wisely arranged the rooms to all face inward into a courtyard, since it is close to a couple of busy streets. The widows are such that as long as you don't have to open them, it is reasonably quiet. However if you find the room warm, and you are not in the season when the AC is active, you will find that your cool air comes with a lot of road noise. It resulted in a poor nights sleep. We found that the room needed airing when we arrived, since the cleaning products scents were still strong.

The rooms are not huge, but they work. It would be nice to have 2 luggage racks available. If they are going to use thick duvets on the bed, they should have the AC activated in the spring. Beds were comfortable, too bad the room was too hot.

The breakfast area is much too small for the number of rooms/guests. It can really be a "bun fight" in the morning, and finding a place to sit was not easy. There is not enough space in the area to pick up your food, and the staff has a hard time to keep the food areas stocked. By HI express North American standards they provide a nice breakfast. When measured by other hotels in Germany it is not as good as most. Canned fruit is just not what you normally find at a breakfast in Europe, especially with added grapes that are looking very sad.

It is a bit of a walk to main part of town, but it is not that bad, especially since part of it is thru a nice park space.

Reception staff was pleasant and efficient. A taxi from the train station was slightly less that the price range on the website. There are transit stops close so return to the train station was no problem.

This hotel offered a large room, however, if you want a comfortable night's sleep as a couple you might want to secure two single beds pushed together as the double is a true (small) double. Breakfast was great and general amenity of the hotel was welcoming and modern. Exercise caution with the bathroom door which has been designed to separate the toilet from the rest of the bathroom - a trap for fingers of the unwary! We were on the 5th floor and had a great view over rooftops to the hills surrounding the city.

Room Tip: Take care with the bathroom door which poses a danger of trapping your fingers as it swings open and...

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014 via mobile

We spent our Easter holiday staying at the hotel - and our stay wasn't nice. During the third morning our bag with 2 wallets inside was stolen at the breakfast area - my bad - I shouldn't never loose guard even though my little girl was sitting across the bag. The bag was a normal non-woven bag from another hotel (not obvious to anyone that there were 2 wallets in it). 3 hours later the hotel received a call from the police saying that they found my bag 40km away from the hotel. Fortunately we had our car with us so we could get to the station to collect our belongings. Of course all the cash was gone :( and we cancelled all our credit cards as soon as we found out to prevent abuse. The police claimed that someone found it in a bin - the bag was clean - no sign on being in a bin. The manager on duty was supportive in assisting us when we told her about this. I asked if there was any CCTV in the hotel and there isn't.

The red hair receptionist is great - if it's not the manager-on-duty and her I would have given this review 1 star.

Apart from this there are so several things that are not acceptable as a 3 stars hotel:

1. Unfriendly breakfast staff - very unwilling to help - one staff of foreign origin gave me a big 'sigh' when I asked for a napkin!
2. Plastic cups provided are with cracks and it's dangerous to use;
3.My credit card was put into the power slot, and it was TAKEN away (I was told by the manager that they found the card after I wrote to the hotel a couple of weeks after I checked out) - why didn't they give it back to me when I checked out? I did it to test how honest the staffs in the hotel are after having things stolen from the hotel;
4. Cleaning wasn't done properly during holiday period - no replenishments - we saw other guests asking for supplies too at the reception when we got back to the hotel;
5. Key cards - we had to get our cards re-activate every other day because they can't link our reservations;
6. Wifi is on and off - not stable connection, even the receptionist had trouble with it. Also in order to get the free wifi you have to ask for a log-in slip - you have to sign for it. Each slip lasts for 3 days and you need to password to log in everytime! It's a nuisance more than anything else.
7 TV remote didn't work - sent it to be fixed but nothing changed.
8. No elite recognisation - I had to tell the receptionist that we are both Platinum to get 2 coupons for 300 points - not the 2 perks per member as advertised by IHG.

I wrote to the manager to the hotel and he apologized (the standard ones you see on TA) and offered to send me my voided credit card back - what do I use a void credit card for? I just got back about 15 voided cards from the police station.

There are some negative aspect about the location of the hotel:

It's NOT in the city of Baden Baden, I can't imagine how to get to the hotel without a car.

There is a EUR 3.5 city tax collected by the hotel per person per day, so put that into your budget when you book - the card was useless because those discounts were minimal. We weren't told when we made reservation to the room, we realised when the receptionist checked us in present this 'beautiful discount card'. So another EUR 56 out of our pocket!!

Parking is a disaster in Baden Baden - the hotel charges EUR 12 for parking which I found unacceptable - I paid less to park inside Hamburg! Street parking is virtually non-existence. We managed by finding a closed shop nearby. We saw parking tickets on tons of car - vary from 10 to 20 EUR, it might still be cheaper to get a fine once in a while (they don't work during weekends and holidays), than paying EUR 12 to park at the hotel.

My advice: if you don't have to be in Baden Baden, stay somewhere else. Not sure if I'll return to the hotel in the future.

Friendly staff ,clean insulated rooms so not much of noise from next door,10 mins walk to the city center are the positives that made our stay pleasant.We traveled over the Easter weekend,and had constant problems with parking,even though the staff tried their best.The breakfast did not have many options (minus sausages/bacon/scrambled eggs etc which is a regular in most hotels).
They usually provide sofa beds,if you are travelling with kids,but we were not lucky as the hotel was packed,and inspite of our request while booking,they gave us two separate beds,instead of one double bed,and no sofa bed for the child,which was a wee bit of a problem;which is why I have rated sleep quality as average.Others could have a different experience I presume.

Room Tip: Rooms on the opposite side of the road (entrance to hotel) have better view.

This was our next stop from Feldkirch, Austria. The staff here was great and very friendly. Rooms were nice but its small. Always good when the staff speaks English very well. I was traveling with a German friend and it always makes things easier.

Breakfast was very good and selection was great.

Clean, practical, no hassles, decent price and prompt service. Decent location. A couple words of warning. The parking spaces are really small and you have no guarantee of having one. The hotel is in the middle of 2 roads with a lot of traffic, so expect noise pollution.
