“Our second visit and now 5 stars”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

We made our second visit for three nights 4-7 March 2014. We again stayed in a Roter Schliff room this time number 116.
Perhaps due to competition in the area they have added a buffet lunch to the room package. Also VERY IMPORTANT with the aid of a small device provided by the a Hotel I had free wifi in the room
We participated in a number of fitness classes, enjoyed some treatments and ate very, very well.

We had a wonderful time and suspect my wife will want us to return next year, I will be easily persuaded.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for the device that will give you free wifi in the room

My wife a I stayed one week-end in Schliffkipf.
It was a very nice experience, especially for the SPA.
We used just the sauna area and it was well done, clean and relaxing.
We had one dinner, good, but nothing special, and breakfast, same.
All people working in Schliffkopf were very nice, helpful and smiling.
Bar Paparazzi, for the evening, is nice ... but we were surprised that in such place still smoking is not forbidden. The smell of smoke was too much.

My wife and I stayed for two nights in Roter Schliff room 112 on Tuesday and Wednesday 26 and 27 February 2013. This is a very nice room at the front of the Hotel on the first floor of 27 square meters and has a balcony. It was a very quiet and peaceful stay and we did not experience any noise from the road, perhaps as we were there in the winter and the window was rarely open.
We had a half board package and the breakfast and evening meals were excellent.
The facility's are excellent and we made full use of the indoor and outdoor (brrrrr) pools, the sauna and steam rooms. My wife had a pedicure which she loved and I a massage that was heavenly.
Overall we had a wonderful stay and fully intend to return soon.
Everyone should realise that this is not an international Hotel and German is mainly if not exclusively the language used. There are no French or English translations. The staff are very kind, friendly and helpful. They did attempt an English version of the dinner menu, which could only be read with the help of my wife who speaks and reads German. There is not even a print out available of the treatments on offer.
There were a small number of faults that make this a 4 star and not a five star review. On the second evening our room was not turned down. The second morning aquagym was cancelled but not before I had risen early to take part.
Despite this we will return.

They say first impressions last. My first impression at the Schliffkopf Hotel was of a smouldering cigarette ash tray by the front door. My second impression was the Paparazzi Bar next to the reception with smokers inside ! As most of the western world has now banned smoking from public places, I wondered where I had landed here. Even if all the other areas of the hotel are smoke free I find it a shame that hotel's employees have to suffer the harmful effects of a minority.

Fortunately nearly everything else I can say is excellent. The employees really go that extra mile to smile and talk to guests and there were many reminders that we are were on holiday and that we shouldn't worry about the slighest thing.

The massage and beauty area is newly renovated. It is very tastefully decorated and the staff are just wonderful at making one feel pampered. Even if a guest was perhaps nervous of a particular treatment, the staff very quickly put them at ease.

The pool and sauna area are a little more dated but nevertheless well maintained.

The restaurant area is very comfortable and the food choice is wide and tasty.

The room prices are probably ok for a hotel that appeals to an above average part of the market. It was however disappointing to find that snacks were on the expensive side. At 11 Euros, Toast Hawaii was one of the most expensive I've ever seen, even when compared to large cities. I couldn't help but think that this was taking advantage of the hotel's remote location.

This is a very comfortable hotel. It has many facilities including a sauna, two swimming pools (indoor and outdoor), a fully equipped multi-gym and a comfortable bar. Our room was refreshed twice daily. The cuisine is of a very high standard and the service is extremely professional. The hotel is in a good location if you want to go hiking high up in the mountains, and it is also adjacent to the routes of the Black Forest Mountain Biking arena. The rooms offer breathtaking views over the northern Black Forest, and when the visibility is good you can see other mountain ranges including the Alps, Vosges, Swabian Jura (Schwäbische Alb). I enjoyed it and would stay there again without hesitation.

We spent three nights here on the Royal package in late October while on our way to a wedding in Heidelberg. The situation is magnificent with stunning views all around and lovely grounds.
We had planned to do a lot of walking in the Schwarzwald but we had heavy snow (while the rest of Europe was basking in an Indian summer) so spent more time in the hotel than expected. Fortunately there is an excellent gym, large indoor pool with link to an outdoor one, and a jacuzzi. There were also pilates and other classes available as well as a therapy centre offering first-class massage as well as conventional beauty treatments.
The breakfast buffet was enormous and of very good quality and in general the food was excellent, although if eating a la carte it would be expensive as soem german reviewers have noted. The clientele was mixed in age but with a bias to the over-50s, perhaps not surprising out of season.
Our room was spacious and very well-equipped but a word of warning: the main highway (Schwarzwaldhochstrasse) runs in front of the hotel so it was occasionally noisy at night. I'd advise asking for a room facing in another direction!

Room Tip: Ask for one that doesn't face the road
