As a travel agent, I like to research the hotels I send my clients. This time it was for me and family, and it is a fabulous choice, on the prettiest street - flowers growing up the buildings and hanging overhead like a canopy. In the old town where everything is walking distance. Great owners great rooms wonderful little restaurant on the street level of the hotel best choice

Room Tip: The ones facing the street have great views but the garbage trucks come down the street very early

Probably in the prettiest street in Freiburg, this Hotel is a gem! A warm welcome by the charming owners was matched by them accommodating a change in our reservation without any fuss. And then the restaurant: sympathetically "cool" in style (modern and very tasteful) the limited menu is simply delicious. Local dishes are presented with haute cuisine stylishness and flair. Very refined. Rooms are modern and immaculate. The corridors are cleaned by a robot! We have to come back!

Room Tip: Maybe ask for back of Hotel. Early rising street cleaners and late clubbers may be noisy but no wors...

My stay in Hotel Kreuzblume was truly wonderful. The hotel is on a charming, wisteria decorated small street at the foot of the Schlossberg. The famous tiny canals run along the Konvikstrasse's small boutiques, but city conveniences such as a parking garage and high street shopping are steps away. The hotel is run by 2 Dutch brothers and a German woman, who take every care with your stay and are very hospitable. English, German, and Dutch are spoken fluently, and their enthusiasm for their work is obvious in the immaculate and simple grace of the decor. The rooms are simply decorated with a design theme, and beds are box spring - an unusual find in Europe and very welcome to this American! Thus I slept comfortably with a cool breeze from the window which could be opened a crack or fully, depending on what you want. Another welcome feature not readily found in small hotels in medieval city centers was an elevator, making luggage transfer less of a sweaty exercise than usual. The rooms have TV, hair dryer, great pillows and the rain style shower in the bathroom was heavenly. Overall a great value for money and I will definitely return - not in the least for the splendid restaurant which I have written a separate review about. This hotel is a perfect base for exploring the very walk-able city center, and venturing further afield to the wine country and Basel/Mulhouse.

Room Tip: Rooms in the front have view of the cobblestone street but can be noisier in the evenings with foot...

This sweet little hotel is on a narrow scenic side street in Freiburg, with easy access to interesting antique stores and other shops of various kinds. The hotel is small and will need to know when to expect you so there'll be someone to unlock the door. Staff were helpful and cheerful. The room was comfortable and clean with a great bed, and the breakfast was just fine for us, not a huge variety but certainly enough good fresh food. The WiFi in the room was good. The only thing is, if you're walking from the train station expect to be pulling your suitcase along cobblestones for 15 minutes to get here!

We had a warm welcome here and our double room was spacious with a comfortable bed. Sound insulation from the street is good. It would be nice to have had a kettle and a fridge.

Breakfast offers a small range of good quality ingredients.

All the staff are shown with their name and photo in the hotel information book, and it seems as if they enjoy working here, We certainly enjoyed our stay.

Parking is available in a multi-storey public car park nearby, at a reduced rate. You can drive the car up the pedestrian street to load and unload.

As i have arrived to Hotel/ Restaurant Kreuzblume i was warmly welcomed by the director of the hotel and his lovely partner, they both showed me to the room, it made me feel very welcomed, the design of the room gave me an impression of a boutique hotel, the beds where very comfortable, home away from home.

I was quickly amused by the restaurant and the creative menu composed by the Chef (Arne Jan Kruithof)

I made a reservation on the same evening and on the evening itself i decided to have a 6 course menu, which started of with an (Amuse) of cod and truffel mouse finished of with a madeira gel. home made bread was served with thyme butter, and chopped green olives. The first course: was kohlrabi in three ways, with a sweet potato cream, crispy baked boletus mushroom. The second course: was a smooth crayfish bisque with orange and tomatoes. The third course: was lightly smoked and crispy baked duck leg with farmers cabbage, potato and pork belly. The fourth course: grilled beef ribeye, with sauteed spinach, oysters, grapefruit and a lovely gravy. The fifth course: was a stewed pear with blue cheese. The last course was a caramel parfait, with marinated pineapple sable and a caramel sauce infused with rosemary.

I was so amazed about the quality of the food and perfect service provided by the staff. A place where i will return soon all the courses where accompanied with mainly local wines and explained in detail by the director/ waiter of the hotel they happened to be brothers.
The service was great.

We stayed at this hotel for Valentine's day 2013 and the following weekend (3 nights)... This was not nearly long enough! I would happily move in to this hotel! Diederich and the team are so hospitable and really make you feel at home here.
We stayed in room 8, which faces behind the hotel, but we didn't see this as a problem as it was lovely and quiet, and the gardens behind were hardly an eyesore! Lovely and peaceful. The room was always spotless, the bathroom modern and functional, with a great shower. The bed... Oh the bed! So so comfortable, along with the pillows, it's a wonder we ever got up! Nice and warm, which was brilliant as the day we arrived it was -4...
The breakfast was lovely, with breads, meats, cheeses, fruit, cereals, and an assortment of juices and hot drinks (proper coffee which was much appreciated!).
If you get the chance, please eat at the restaurant at night, the menu is fabulous and available in English for those of you who are a bit rusty in the German department, although the staff speak brilliant English and are very obliging and spoke English to us the majority of the time. The food here is so wonderful, traditional and simple, yet innovative and stylish. Well worth the money. A very talented chef here!
I would absolutely stay here again as it is so convenient, situated in the old town, and 5 minutes walk to the steps up to the schlossburg viewpoint. About 15 minutes walk from the train/bus station, 8€ in a taxi. Very close to tram network also, and shopping district. The münster is 2 minutes away, you can hear the bells on the hour which is lovely.
Thanks to all the Kreuzblume for a wonderful stay!
