We stayed here as a party of two, in a tent and one vehicle for two nights.

The location of this campsite is fantastic. It is only a 10-15 minute walk, straight down the road the campsite is off, to the heart of Freiburg. The ladies at reception were very helpful and spoke very good English. We had made a reservation by email, but they had lost it when we arrived. Luckily, they had space for us on the site. Our pitch was of a good size for our tent.

The toilet block was cleaned daily and was fine. There were sometimes queues for the showers in the morning though.

The biggest issue with this campsite was the other campers. People did not respect the silence between 10pm and 8am rule at all. Someone left a child alone, completely unsupervised in their tent for over three hours and this child screamed consistently in to the night, until past 12am. There was also lots of other disturbance with people slamming car doors and playing board games until late at night.

Right next to the entrance to the campsite is a large pub, which serves great food, but is occupied by most of the campers in the evenings. You do not here any noise from the pub at your pitches, but you do here people coming back from the pub being quite loud.

Overall, this campsite would be best avoided at peak season if you wish to sleep at night, but would probably be great during the quieter season.

I have to disagree with previous comment. we found this a very nice campsite, small pitches but owners lovely. there are woods behind , the town just down the road and large shopping centre 5 mins away. This is a green campsite, and well managed. Showers good, a seperate little library/ reading room, book swap too. a small shop and in reception you can borrow a few items. I borrowed a hair dryer as it was so cold and didn't want wet hair. I thought this was very thoughtful of them.
While we we here they closed the traffic off at 9pm and had a quiet time from 1 til 3.
Campsite was only 15 euros a night with ACSI card.

We stayed here for 4 nights in September 09 and arrived approximately 6 pm, having telephoned first to alert them in case the reception was closed on our arrival. No fear of that it later proved! Having been shown 3 available pitches for our 6 berth tent and car, we reluctantly made our choice of extremely small dirt pitches and proceeded to set up on a very sloping pitch. Whilst doing so we were amazed to see even more cars, camper vans and caravans arriving, marvelling at where they could possibly fit in. By approx 9.30pm the convoy seemed to stop.

Our first impressions of this site were disappointing to say the least. The description in their leaflet describes them as a small and quiet campsite - the small is certainly true and to be fair there isn't much noise after 10.30pm as the gates are closed to vehicles at 10pm - but the amount of 'punters' that are crammed in is something to be believed. I thought that there was supposed to be at least 6ft clearance between pitches as fire precaution but here, any available space was filled with yet another tent, camper van or caravan. Luckily there were no mishaps but I dread to imagine the consequences if there were.

The facilities are good with shower blocks being adequate and the cubicles quite large so you can keep your clothes dry whilst showering and there are electric sockets for your hairdryer. There is cooking, washing up and clothes washing facilities and also a microwave and freezer available and a small shop. Within the grounds is a bar/restaurant. We didn't eat there but it seemed a bit expensive.

The town of Freiburg is delightful with lots of cobbled alleyways and colourful buildings and only a short distance from the campsite. We rode our bikes on the first visit and it only took about 10 minutes. There is also a cycle path along the river which makes another pleasant trip. The Tourist Information people are very helpful and speak English.

Summing up, Freiburg is lovely and the facilities at Hirzberg Camping are good BUT the campsite is like a small congested car park and at over 20 euros a night for tent pitch and 1 car (we didn't have electric hook-up) we thought it expensive and spoiled by the lack of space. At check out we mentioned our thoughts on the overcrowding but this was met with a stoney stare and no comment. It would be tolerabe for a 1 night stop over but I wouldn't recommend a 1 or 2 week holiday there. I would like to add that in the 4 nights we were there, several people agreed with our disappointment and we even had to offer one poor man a parking space at the rear of our tent as his had been taken up by yet another camper van having been squeezed in whilst he was out for the day!! I know this is a business like anything else but there is a limit to where income takes preference over safety.
