We visited Oli's while in Triberg & I encourage a visit to this magnificent shop! The wood work is amazing & if you are lucky, you might even get a lesson in telling the difference between a mass produced cuckoo clock & a hand made one!! We were lucky enough to receive this lesson and what a difference it made. I would never have given a second thought about mass production versus the real thing, however I now know what to look for!! Definitely worth a trip in, even if only to purchase little knick-knacks.

There are two main cuckoo-clocks stores near the Black-Forest-Waterfall entrance: one really beautiful with huge clock on the facade, located at the main road and selling mostly Chinese fakes\expensive clocks. But this one is round the corner(to the right) and the master sells genuine mechanical cuckoo-clocks(with pendulum, poises...), explaining you everything you want to know. It is really cool, the bird don't wake us up at nights as we thought it would and we enjoy it very much. The cheapest is about 90€.

We visited this afternoon and the woodcarvings on the clocks in this shop were amazing! I watched the woodcarver for a few minutes, whose workbench is right inside the front door.

We enjoyed browsing Oli's Schnitzstube. The clerk who helped us was delightful and gave us helpful information about buying a cuckoo clock. She answered all our questions, showed us the inner workings of the clocks and let us listen to the cuckoo call of the clocks that were of interest to us. The clocks in the shop are all beautiful and of many different designs and price ranges. We ended up buying two clocks and having them shipped. I can't wait to get our new purchases! When we left, it was pouring rain and we needed to catch the train, so we asked the clerk if she could call a taxi for us. We were surprised when her boss came out and offered to drive us to the station!

Triberg is famous for its cuckoo clocks, but in recent years, many of the clocks that are "made in Germany" were crafted piecemeal elsewhere and merely assembled in Germany. But not at Oli's - here, you'll see Oli, a master carver, at work in the shop, and every clock is made there, from start to finish. Prices are very competitive, and you can rest assured you are purchasing an authentic Black Forest cuckoo clock. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and gave my family of four a complete tour of the shop. Check out House of 1000 Clocks for kitschy fun, but go to Oli's when you're ready to purchase!
