My family and I had a wonderful time sight seeing and visiting stores on our visit. Most of the people speak English which was wonderful. My family and I love to visit old historic sights and Altstadt did not dissapoint.

Always love our trips to Germany but to Altstadt is very special. Lots of local restaurants and quirky shops. We loved the bakery open for a few hours on Sunday morning to get the fresh salty bread. Beautiful walks and lots to do. Centrally located. Travelled 2014, 2015

Altstadt is filled with historic buildings, market squares and numerous places for shopping. The area is easily walkable and full of people. Shop owners are friendly and helpful.

The main attraction here is Hauptstrasse, a lively pedestrianised street that stretches along the old city. It´s not very long, but remarkable, dotted with many beautiful buildings here and there, eateries, good shops and always full of people. To get a more local flavour, try the local delicatessen: a huge cake called snowball or so. You´ll feel stuffed. Around Haupstrasse there are quite a few highlights at walking distance: the access to the Castle, plus the Town Hall, the Heiliggeistkirche Protestant Church, the University, St. Peter Church and the old bridge and the Brückentor although I must warn you that the latter is being restored, so the day I went, everything was thoroughly covered in plastic canvas and scaffoldings. One strong point of Heidelberg is its compact layout: most points of interest are very near from each other, so it´s an ideal city to walk.

Great place to mill around and look at shops. There is pretty much a shop or place to eat to fit anyone's mood.

If you're in Heidelberg, please visit the Old Town! The winding narrow streets are extremely beautiful. The street side coffee cafe's add another level of energy to the place. Do visit the Romantic Cafe!

Sitting in the street at a bar/cafe watching people from all over the world is amazing. The various cultures, sights and things to do and see will be well worth the visit.
