Whether you find this review to be encouraging or discouraging will depend on your priorities.
Pro's:
With the exception of the very limited cereals (two types of dry muesli, cornflakes and sugar puffs), the cold breakfast buffet is excellent with meats, cheeses, smoked salmon and trout, a wide variety of breads and a greengrocer's worth of fruit.
The hotel is located just west of the end of Hauptstrasse, the cobbled street initially lined with high-street shops and then, as you get further into 'Old Town', with restaurants and tourist shops.
If pre-booked with the hotel, there is guest parking at €12 per night. If you are driving to Heidelberg, as we were, this is a big plus.
Our bathroom was very spacious and bright with a large walk-in shower.
Cons:
The mattress could just as well have been hewn from rock and the pillows had seen better days many years ago - think "foam with lumps".
There are no room safes which is disconcerting as there also appears to be no system for checking when handing out room keys......and this is very much a city centre hotel.
The wifi is very variable (at least in our first floor room) and at times surfing was like watching a kettle boil. The hotel data says that there is also LAN connectivity for guests and, indeed, under the desk there is an Ethernet outlet. It did not, however, appear to be functioning and unfortunately at weekends, no IT support is available at the hotel
