I was sceptical in booking this hotel for a business trip...nevertheless, because of my priority of "proximity to the central railway station", I decided to take the risk...I was not dissappointed...

I stayed here for two weeks and found the staff to be friendly...the reception desk is open 24 hrs and this was good since on some weekends I left/returned after midnight....

I had booked a junior suite..On the first day electric stove was not working and I was promised that it would be fixed the next. The staff kept their promise...

The room cleaning service was good.

The hotel is located just about 300 meters from the Central Railway Station and this is a big advantage, specially if you want to use the trains to get around...moreover, Mc Donalds and Burger King are located next to the station and are open at odd hours too..so you need not miss the meals...

We really had trouble finding good budget accommodations on the internet for Heidelburg. We decided on the Central because it was a reasonably priced 3 star hotel near the station. Once we got there, we could almost see the hotel from the station. As we walked over there, there were a number of drunks laying around, so we were a little concerned about security at first. The hotel itself is ok, and check in went very smoothly. Our room was also ok and seemed clean. The worst part is that it isn't very convenient to the old town section, but the tram is just across the street. It probably took us 30 minutes or less to walk to the edge of the old town area. We took the tram back, which only took a few minutes. Breakfast was very good, and included a lot of variety. After our initial arrival, we didn't see any more drunks lying around, so maybe that was just a fluke. So, the Central was ok, but you may want to consider your options carefully before staying there.

I stayed overnight and was pleased with the hotel after a long flight into Frankfurt and driving in on the Autobahn. My room was clean, efficient and quiet. Breakfast was very good, especially the good German bread. Be warned that parking is an extra charge and very limited so dont show up late.

not much to say: old, very poor breakfast with no fruits at all and my back is still aching after spending just one night on a completely ruined bed. However, I need to mention the staff is very friendly, seems to be a kind of tradition in bed German hotels, considering my previous experience :-)

My wife and I visited Heidelberg for the Christkindlmarkt (December 2005) and stayed at the Hotel Central only to find its 3 star rating rather misleading. The rooms are dank, the bathrooms cramped, the hotel generally run down. There is no coffee or tea service in the room, and they have a tiny little television in the room.

This is not a nice place to stay, and given the price of 90 euros on a weekend (including a breakfast that was mediocre at best) I'd recommend that you look elsewhere.

Particularly disappointing was that even though our reservation included mention of the requirement to park a car, they charged and extra fee for this. It is almost as if the staff there dislikes Americans (perhaps that is understandable these days) but I'm not sure nationality is ever a good excuse for being gruff and unfriendly when you are in the hospitality industry.

There are definitely better hotels in Heidelberg (Hotel Regina is closer to town and is a better deal) so I'd recommend you keep looking before settling on this place. By the way, the Hotel Central is only close to the train station, it is a hefty walk to the main tourist area... something to consider when the temps are nearing zero as we found out the hard way...

This was an average 3-star hotel near the train station. Rooms were average Euro size with a small bathroom. No fans meant hot weather in the summer, noisy street outside of hotel (college apartments). Staff was friendly. 15-20 minute walk to Hauptstrasse (downtown). Did have a nice breakfast, elevator, and parking. Did have S-Bahn tracks outside of hotel to get downtown quicker. Very affordable rates. Would have been nicer to be closer to downtown, but if you work for the U.S. Army (like me), this hotel is right across the railroad tracks from the Post Exchange. Within 5-10 minute drive of all U.S. Heidelberg facilities.
