Hotel Rose Heidelberg
Ranked #45 of 76 Hotels in Heidelberg
Reviewed 19 June 2014

I can only speak for me but after staying there for an extended stay, the Rose Hotel on Karsruher Strasse in Heidelberg could be the biggest rip-off in Heidelberg. Their microscopic rooms and overly high rates are the result of the family catering only the transient US military for the past 50 years while the US Army headquarters was in Heidelberg. Now the US Army is gone and the value-for-money is just not there. It is also right on the tram line major intersection so if the noise does not get you, the vibration will - and it all starts before 5 AM and goes until after midnight. You will find far larger, more quiet rooms, and much better deals just around the corner. Not sure about the attitude of the lady who runs it and how she has survived in the hospitality business for so long. I am guessing that they never had to care about marketing or customer service as the military clients came to them always.

Room Tip: Lots more better options for the money.

Location is off the beaten path, not walkable to the old town. The hotel is clean, but the decor is tired. On a busy street right beside busy tram line. Unfortunately the night we stayed there, roadwork was being done all night- very noisy, but room was so hot, had to sleep, with windows open! Minuscule bathroom, shower doors don't close properly so floor completely soaked. Breakfast mediocre, no fruit. Quirky room layout, no elevator. Sketchy neighbourhood. We left after one night and stayed elsewhere.

This small hotel is easy to reach with public transport and less than 20 minutes from the town centre. The room was spacious, clean and well furnished. The noise from the main road was not particularly troublesome thanks to double glazing. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. The use of a small kitchen is a very good feature. I will return!

In July, my sisters and I brought 13 women to stay a few days in Heidelberg. We'd stayed at the Hotel Rose before, so expected it to be wonderful. And it was! The owner, Ms. Reese, is so accommodating and sweet. Each woman arrived to find welcome baskets with wine, fruit, and a Heidelberg card, in their room. The breakfasts were delicious, and the rooms neat and clean.
I highly recommend this quaint hotel, especially if you prefer not being in the center and commotion of the Altstadt. There is a bus stop around the corner that takes you right into town. So, you can spend the days there, and return to your quiet room at night. You have have the best of both worlds.

My husband, daughter, and I stayed 7 nights at the hotel during a two-week vacation. We loved our time there and plan to go back. The staff is friendly, the breakfasts are wonderful, and our room was spacious and felt like home. The location is fantastic, the tram to downtown Heidelberg is right across the street, and the neighborhood has several things to offer: interesting places to eat, a fun out-door bar down the street, and great walking routes through neighborhoods. We went to several places while in Germany, but my 17-year-old daughter said Heidelberg and the Rose Hotel was the best part of a fantastic vacation; my husband and I agree! Thank you Beate and the Fein family.

Hotel Rose is our preferred hotel in Heidelberg, Germany, having stayed there many times. The staff at the Hotel Rose is very friendly and speaks English for those of us who don't speak German. This is a family-owned hotel and they take great pride in their hotel and it shows. The rooms (and hotel itself) are very clean, the breakfast buffet is quite extensive, and there is a cellar room that guests can use. There is a tram stop nearby that can take you down to the city centre. The location is very convenient. Would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Heidelberg.

The Hotel Rose on Romer Strasse, Rohrbach/Heidelberg is my favorite place to stay at Heidelberg, Germany. Ambiance, cleanliness, and the hearty welcomes by the Fein family make this a highly positive experience for me. The breakfast buffet is excellent and there is a cellar room with tables and TV for visitors to use. There are two streetcar lines about 50 yards from the hotel front door. One goes to the bahnhof and the other to the center of town with a stop at the Hauptstrasse. Two of my favorite restaurants are the Italia and the Traube and are within a five minute walk. Parking is also available.
