“Looks worse than it is”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

We arrived here after flying all night and landing in Frankfurt International.. The put us on the 3rd floor and we did not hear any noise.. when we arrived, Germany was having a heat wave, and temps outside were 35+ degrees. Inside the hotel, they had A/C and also in the rooms.. these worked well. We were exhausted from travelling all night and so we slept. When we got up, we went for a walk around the area, only to find much of it was under construction and the area seemed dirty. We didn't bother walking all the way down to the Palace, however, chose to return to the hotel for supper. It was OK.

The next morning, we chose to get breakfast, and it was probably one of the best breakfast's we ever had in europe. They actually had bacon and eggs..

We signed up for their silly hotel club which gave us free internet.. the internet was a little spotty in our room but generally fine..

I would prob not return due to the location but the zoo across the street was very cool and a nice one at that.. everyone should stop by if in the area..

This hotel offers what I most want in a hotel: cleanliness, good bed, functional, unobtrusive, and controllable air conditioning, real sound proofing both for external and internal noise, decent shower, and TV with good selection of channels including more than just news in English. The only thing I would have liked here that was offered as a chargeable add-on was free WIFI. Otherwise, this hotel was great -- professional, friendly staff, beverages offerings in lobby, reasonably priced breakfast, comfortable, tasteful environment, and good location. Great! Just add free WIFI and it will be perfect.

Room Tip: The hotel has very good sound proofing and air conditioning so I don't think there is much diffe...

This hotel had much to recommend it. The staff were very friendly, breakfast was good (it's nice to linger over a hotel breakfast when you don't have to rush off to a "meet the professor" or whatever...), and it was very quiet. It overlooks the Stadtgarten and zoo - you can see the elephants and flamingos when you walk to the Hauptbahnhof, which is barely 10 minutes away on foot. The room was adequate in size and the beds comfortable (though I'd have liked a firmer/thicker/extra pillow - but I didn't bother asking for one, so I can't complain). Unlike some German hotels the double bed was a proper double bed - no canyon down the middle! It still had separate duvets, German style. The room was perhaps a little stuffy at first; but you can control the heating, and the windows open.

We stayed in mid-March 2014, and found the transport more difficult than we'd expected. The hotel staff gave us a map showing the current arrangements. The hotel is on the Ettlingerstrasse - one of the main roads in and out of Karlsruhe, with a tram (Strassenbahn) stop just outside it; but they're building "cut and cover" tunnels for the trams all over central Karlsruhe, and the Ettlingerstr. tram lines aren't in action - there's a replacement ("ersatz") bus that runs every 10 minutes during the day (every 20 minutes after 8pm) stopping outside the hotel and doing a figure-of-eight that includes downtown Karlsruhe and the Hauptbahnhof. If you're planning on doing a lot of visits and travelling around, you'll need to add extra time until the road works are over. But you can't fault the Leonardo for this!

Room Tip: You get nice views of the zoo and park at the front of the hotel. We didn't find it too noisy, b...

The hotel is quite aged, but ok and clean. Standard rooms are small. Location is good, close to main station and city center. As it is located some meters back to the road, it's more quite than other hotels at the same street. Good breakfast. Internet speed is ok, but access is not reliable, several vouchers didn't work. Reception changed them immediately. Also some standard internet pages seems to be blocked (eg Tripadvisor) and only accessible with VPN. Summary: good location, quite, fair price, good breakfast, internet access via swisscom a bit strange.

Excellent large room with balcony, (if you like scenes of main roads and industry and other peoples back yards!). Brilliant electronic controlled shower, no bath. Very comfortable beds.
All clean and well maintained. Nice bar area and seperate room for smokers. Very good restaurant and good choice of food. Helpful staff.

Room Tip: Keep away from the front over the bust main road.

Since Leonardo hotels have taken over what was formerly The Best Western Queens Hotel in Karlsruhe, the decor has improved and it has brightened up.
We stayed here Saturday 19th Oct for one night and were allocated a room on the tenth floor. there is an express lift that goes from reception to the tenth floor.
It was quiet and we had a large room. the WC is separate to the bathroom and the room is well maintained and tastefully decorated.
The staff were friendly and helpful but the downside was that the bar was shut.
We ate dinner out of the hotel but breakfast in and it was good quality.
Wifi was good and quick.
The hotel has improved since it became part of the Leonardo chain and is a good stop off point when travelling to central/Southern Europe.

Room Tip: 1. Ask for a room on the tenth floor 2. Join the Leonardo rewards scheme to get 24 hour free Wifi

I was there for 5 days for business.
The room was at the top floor with an amazing view on the city.
It was clean and silent.
The breakfast was good with several different foods.
15 minutes by walk from the castle.

Room Tip: On the top floor you can have an amazing view.
