“OK for 1 or 2 nights”
Reviewed 18 December 2013

This is OK for 1 or 2 nights, and is convenient for the station. It's more like the German equivalent of a british pub restaurant with rooms above. You could say the whole place has character, or it's in need of refurbishment. The room was accessed through a narrow stairway, or through the use of the ancient elevator. If you are carrying heavy luggage, there is one step between the ground floor and the elevator. I stayed in a room on the floor above the restaurant, but there was no internal noise. There was quite a lot of noise from the street though, which was busy most of the night. The light in the room was quite dim, but there was a separate desk light and a bedside light. There is free wi-fi, which you have to register to use. There were three coat hangers in the wardrobe, but I'm sure I could have asked for more. The bathroom has a shower and was clean. The shower head could have done with the screw tightening on the bracket so it didn't keep drooping, but the water was hot. None of the floors had any carpet, so were cold to walk on. Breakfast was a fairly standard continental type, with cheese, meats, bread, rolls, yoghurt, fruit, and coffee. The staff I spoke to all spoke English. I have stayed in far better places, but would stay here again if I had to.

I would like to sum up my horrible esperience with this strange hotel:

- I arrived at 6 pm in the afteroon and they asked me pre-payment for an horrible room.
- They didn't advise me that it was a smoking room.
- The central heating was browen.
- The owner was very unpolite with her assistent on the reception and he left me one hour becuase she was too nervouse .
- the food during the dinner arrived with 1 and half hour in delay.

I travel frequently in German and this is my first horrible esperience in 20 years!

This is a very convenient hotel close to the station. The reception is invariably welcoming, and considering what can be charged in many European cities, it provides good, clean, simple accommodation at a reasonable price. It is on a main road, but I did not find the noise a problem.

This hotel is adequate if expensive for what you get though I work a lot in Mannheim and have used this when unable to get into my regular hotels. Tried today .. because a conference is on in town they upped the price 25% for a night. I would rather sleep in the train station than pander to their greed and will not be going back.

Try the Basler Hof or City hotels. Only Metres away and cheaper, friendlier and better breakfast (especially at Basler) and the room rate doesnt change.

I decided to stay in this hotel as I was looking at a hotel which was close to the station as I was travelling by train and I was also looking at a small family hotel so that I felt more secure.
The room was very nice and quiet and I cannot complain about anything.
It is a simple basic hotel that I would reccomend to aybody.

I stayed here for one night only in a room on the first floor facing the street. The room itself was small but adequate, with a single bed (comfortable), lounge and desk. There were clear instructions in english and german as to how to connect to the free internet via WiFi. Even with all the windows closed there was still a moderate amount of street noise but even being a light sleeper this did not keep me awake.
The guesthouse owners were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was the typical German fare with breads, juice cheese, ham and eggs but all very fresh and tasty.
The best part about this hotel is the proximity to the Hbf (about 300m) so easy walking distance with a heavy suitcase. There were quite a number of eateries in the Hbf but also handy to trams and buses to visit elsewhere.
I would stay here again for a short visit but request a back room.

Room Tip: Request a room that is not on the street.
