Holiday Inn Stuttgart
Ranked #28 of 146 Hotels in Stuttgart
Reviewed 13 November 2011

We stayed 3 nights in Stuttgart at Holiday Inn, driving a rental car. The hotel is located in an industrial area, directly opposite a little train station. The front desk staff encouraged us to park in the 13 euros/day hotel carpark and advised us there was no free parking available in the area. Upon asking pedestrians in the area, we found out that all the on-street parking was unlimited and free, right next to the hotel. We had several pieces of luggage and no staff member ever offered to help us with our luggage. We were given a single sized blanket in our room and it took about half an hour for housekeeping to bring a second blanket. The housekeeping staff removed our packet of M&M's (which were not empty) and also the shower gel/shampoo that was attached to the shower wall!! They also threw away our piece of paper we left on the table with our internet password on it.

Internet is not free, although it costs only 4 euro/24 hours. there is also a business centre which allows you to print and photocopy (for free). The restaurant food is reasonable but more expensive than outside the hotel. There is no fridge/minibar in the room but there were coffee/tea-making facilities. There are vending machines on 2 levels of the hotel if you want any drinks or snacks.

The 70 sq cm sized shower cubicle was very difficult to use with a shower curtain sticking to you as you move in the shower. Even for very slim people.

This hotel is literally located 50 meters from the U-bahn. Very easy to get around Stuttgart and to the Volksfest/Wassen (if that is what you are there for). There is even free street parking at this hotel, although they offer a parking garage for a fee. The breakfast was LARGE and PLENTIFUL!

Stayed one night at this hotel while visiting the Porsche factory, as it was relatively close and provided convenient access to the Autobahn. The location is in a nice business/industrial area. Since we had an automobile, we took advantage of the underground self-park facility (not free, there is a charge). There is a train station right next door, if you want to venture out without a car. We were greeted by a friendly person who indicated that since I was a member of their Priority Club, I would receive a complimentary suite upgrade. It was a modern looking corner room with 2 bathrooms and a separate living room (see pictures). While it was nice and spacious, we pretty much stayed in the bedroom area the whole time while in the room. The stay included breakfast in their new buffet facility (they told us it had just opened 7 days prior to our arrival after renovation). We walked in at 9:50 to be greeted by a waiter looking at his watch who indicated they would only be open 10 more minutes, even though the sign said breakfast served till 10:30. But this was no issue as we got what we wanted before they started their clean up at 10am. This hotel, because of its location, appears to cater heavily toward the business crowd, not the tourist, which is OK. Overall the stay was pleasant and we would return if we needed a hotel in this area.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights. It's easily accessible from the main train station in an area with several company offices. The staff were friendly and very helpful for inquiries. And the breakfast is totally worth the money. The charge for WiFi is quite reasonable, with very good speed. Overall, I've enjoyed my stay there very much.

Room Tip: Not the room facing the train station.

The hotel is far from downtown, but the train station is only steps from the hotel. This means though as well that when a freight train passes, the noise level is high in the rooms as well.
I stayed in an executive room. It did offer a good basic setup, but did not match the usual "executive room" amenities in some other Holiday Inns.

The name "HI-Stuttgart" as opposed to "HI-Stuttgart Airport" may lead to think that this is downtown as opposed to airpoirt. No, this hotel is as far from the center as the airport is, but in the northwest as opposed to airport being in the south.

A train day pass including the centre and the hotel required three payment zones, and amounted to nine euros. Inspectors showed up all the time on the trains, so do purchase a ticket.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not overlooking the station. Freight trains are long and the noise level is high. P...

During a training, I stayed 5 nights at this Holiday Inn Hotel. The room was okay, but every morning the deliveries with trucks woke me up. The hotel is located far away from the city centre, so the only chance to see something different is to use the public transport (train station just in front of the hotel). Train rails are not only used for public transport but for freight trains as well (Noise....)
F&B Manager is not aware of his business. Found several hairs in my lunch...
Distance to airport is very far as well. Unless you do not work for one of the companies in the neighbourhood, look for an alternative hotel in Stuttgart.

I was here for business for 4 days, the hotel staff were pleasant enough, the breakfast and bar snacks were very good, the room was spacious and clean, stunning views of the local train station, and underground parking very convenient. Assuming you are not staying here for a vacation and expect lots of bars and restaurants around, this will suit the bill as it is slap bang in a business park. It is expensive though. 145 euros for room and breakfast is a bit steep. Convenient for taking the trian to Stuttgart and a cash machine over the road.
