“Location is OK, but still average quality”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

The hotel is situated perfectly in the middle of city - city center is in 5 minutes walk, train station inhouse, public transport (S and U-Bahn) is also inhouse. The hotel offers free transport pass during staying. Wifi is free, but signal is very poor. The room is quite OK and clean, but the bed is poorer quality and the ventillation in bathroom sometimes makes incredible noise (I've tried several rooms, it was always a problem). The breakfast is good quality and offers cofee to go for free.

Booked this one because it was close to the main train station and we didn't want the burden of hunting for our hotel. Pleasantly surprised when we came out from the station and it was within sight. Desk staffer went out of her way to get us the size bed we liked and a non smoking room. We got there too early to check-in, so she locked up our bags and we went sight-seeing. Within walking distance of the old buildings in town we wanted to photograph and since the hotel provides a free local travel card, we could hop the S bahn train anywhere while there. Room had ample space and basic amenities and seemed fairly recently updated. Only negative were a lot of steps to climb.

recent visit as spent night before flight. easy access to shopping, restaurants as well directly at the train station. Quiet for the location and room was sufficent. hard part was coming in the front door from the street as no elevator since the main access is from the train station.
otherwise good and plan to come back again

When in Germany, I often stay at InterCity/Steigenberger hotels. In most cases, they are quite close to the city's train station and the hotel provides a transportation pass for unlimited use during my stay - it's probably already included in the room's price, but at least it is not listed a separate item you pay for. Although internet is not free, the 8 euro/24-hour tariff is not that bad in my opinion and the connection was reliable for streaming audio and video.

The single room was not overly large, but adequate for my needs. Both the room and bath were clean. The bed was ok but there is no room safe. If you need to secure anything, there are safety deposit boxes at the front desk - but these are not large and will not allow storage of an 10" ultrabook laptop.

The buffet breakfast, included in my room rate, was average, but filling. Coffee/tea in the breakfast room is self-service and I found the espresso to be good. I found the staff to be friendly (especially Dominic). I arrived well before the 3:00pm (15:00) check-in time, I was able to get a complementary wi-fi connection which having a beer (which I paid for) while waiting for my room to be available.

I had stayed at this hotel about 5 years ago because its location and that was the reason I did so again - as I would be using the train to travel to other cities nearby.

The localization of Intercity in Stuttgart is unbeatable.
The really best here.

Breakfast still the same for years. And I say: still good.

The rooms are a little old-fashioned. The bathroom needs a improvement.

The most important advantage is the Free Ticket Pass. Public transportation for foreigners.

Room Tip: Single rooms seem to be avoided. Choose from first or second floor, if possible.

When you have a short visit to a city - using rail or air - the location of your hotel is paramount - as the TV programme says 'Location, location, location'. This hotel has it. Coming from the airport by S bahn or arriving on the main line trains all one does is go to the north end of the main concourse of the Hauptbahnhof - on the on the left is the entrance to the hotel. Our room (215) looked over the city and yet the effective double glazing cuts out traffic and train noise completely - just the occasional siren. The bathroom - actually shower room - was newly refurbished - reasonably sized with a good shower. A good modern TV with the usual stations on the continent. The bed was not saggy and the room was exceptionally clean. The room is reasonably large for a city centre hotel - a desk and desk chair - easy chair and coffee table. The door is the usual card system. You get a free transport card for the whole of the Stuttgart transport system for the full time you are there (we went to Esslingen - wonderful unbombed town and Ludwigsburg - great palace English tours at 1.30 and to the great rack railway -also part of the system so free). The reception staff speak English. Anything bad - well the bottle of mineral water (price 3.60 euros) on the desk is irritating- better none at all or some in the minibar. The breakfast is good in a refurbished and quite high class breakfast room but a bit expensive at 15 euros - 12 or 13 would have been better.
But the wonderful location is amazing - you can go from the station concourse on the underpass directly on to the pedestrianised part of the city apart from all the transport connections - so convenient.

Every year for 10 years or more we stay here. It's attached to the train station so quick access for train or S-Bahn plus free use of S-bahn ,U-bahn all over town or out as far as the airport or Boeblingen (we take a cab from there to Sindelfingen for a meeting). It is at the beginning of the pedestrian main shopping street of Stuttgart.
Rooms vary in size by price but are all comfortable and absolutely quiet. We go in Oct so no weather temperature problems. There are smoking or non-smoking rooms (should specify in your reservation). Liquid soap dispensers and no lotion but this year 2 nice packaged combs and packaged shower caps. Comfortable beds with individual duvets.
Front desk staff has always been very efficient and helpful and friendly, stored our bags if needed. A reasonable senior discount rate with breakfast is sometimes available on the website or if requested directly. The buffet breakfast is very good and varied with hot as well as cold selections.
We will continue to stay there for sure.

Room Tip: All rooms are very quiet, some are larger than others or further from the elevators.
