I have been to this restaurant twice in the last year, and it has been wonderful each time. First I was with a group of 8, and the last time I was alone. It is easily accessible by the U-Bahn (the last stop on the line--Plieningen. It's not a "dressy" place, but faded jeans or (God forbid) shorts would definitely be out of place at dinner. BOOK IN ADVANCE. This place is VERY popular locally, and even groups of two were being turned away. The host/hostess generally speaks English, but I recommend first asking them if they speak English (in German). If you've booked ahead, simply give your name when they ask.
The dinning rooms have a rennovated farm house feel. It's pastoral, but chic (in its way). The lighting is great. They have several different beers, but the Kaiser beer on draft (vom fass) is excellent. It's served in earthenware mugs (krug), and the large (grosse) is a half liter (you can buy the mug for 8 Euro).
The menu is fantastic. It features regional specialities like maultasche zuppe (small, hand made ravioli in a VERY savory broth), seasonal vegetables, liver, and, best of all, game. Deer (hirsch) and wild boar (wild schwine) are frequently on the menu. Of course you cand find all the stereotypical German fare, but I recommend a little culinary adventure.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Prosit.
