Despite our non-existent German, and the wait-staff's non-existent English, they managed to find a table for this family of four who stumbled in just as they opened for the evening.

We came here based on the Fodor's Guide recommendation. Saw the comments here that it was for tourists. They could be right as we were tourists and loved it. My husband and I got the meal for two (sorry, don't recall the exact name). It was incredible. Our son had sauerbraten and thought it was great.

Lovely setting, courteous and efficient service, good German food -- what more could you want?

Excellent local cuisine. Friendly staff. We had some of their March craft beer and it was excellent. We ended up spending 2 hours over dinner and enjoyed the experience.

The Zunfthaus has been for some years our main destination for local food. We have visited this restaurant many times, both on our own, with friends and with colleagues. It was a reliable bet to sample Schwabian food and enjoy nice local beer. In the summer you can sit outside and in winter the two level restaurant is quite cozy and has a very nice atmosphere. Unfortunately,
the former owner has recently retired and we are not impressed on how things are evolving. Yesterday was our second visit after the new ownership. The serving staff has been kept, which is a relief; the ladies attending the tables are great. However the food has slipped towards the ordinary. The menu has been reduced, the old newspaper like menu is gone and the quality of the ingredients is not what it used to be. The Maultaschen have now a supermarket taste, the filling is far cry from the old home made and conveys the impression of a cutting cost operation. My husband had a veal Wiener schnitzel, a welcome addition to the menu, which was okay but had as accompany dish the saltiest fries we had tasted since school in the 70s. The dessert list is also new and our beloved Kaiserschmarrn has disappeared. The only improvement I have notice is in the wine list. I am afraid that we will have to search for a new favorite place for local specialities.

The restaurant is in an old house in the fishermen's quarter of Ulm. It still retains the old character, in a nice, warm and cozy way. The food focuses on local cuisine, explained on an interesting menu. All what we had was very nice, the portions more than generous and prices modest. What more do you want? Add to this a quick and friendly service and you have a winner.

If you are in Ulm and want to sample local cuisine, the Zunfthaus definitely is an excellent choice.

Quite an Ulm institution, located in a historic house in the old fisherman's district. The food is pretty good - and be sure to try the eisbock (ar rather strong beer) ;-)
