This hotel is just perfect and certainly lives up to the reviews. The location is breathtaking but it is the service and the staff that make this a truly outstanding hotel. All the staff just seem to be so happy in their job and nothing is ever a problem. The food was consistently very good and very enjoyable. You would have to try really hard to find anything to complain about at this hotel.

Hotel Alpenhof is a wonderful small hotel. Upon arrival I was greeted kindly by the front desk staff, given a tour of the hotel and explanation of the amenities included in the room rate.

Benefits:
-Very large, spacious suite with an excellent view- it was very easy to get comfortable in the room. All items were in good repair and clean. The room was spotless!
-Lots of storage for ski equipment, clothing, luggage
-Excellent service received at the front desk by Sylvia. She personally showed us to the restaurant and our room.
-Food was very good, service was exceptional

Criticisms:
-Bathroom was smaller, although the size is in line with the estimated age of the hotel- it was Comparably sized to a hotel bathroom in NYC.
-No hair conditioner offered in bathroom (only shampoo)
-Has bottled hand soap instead of fresh bars for every guest. The medical professional in me couldn't ignore that everyone who goes to the bathroom squeezes the same soap bottle after using the toilette.
-Per the front desk, Half board was included in the room rate, however the first night we were charged full price for dinner and then the next night we appear to have paid a reduced rate for the large meal. It was not made clear how the half board items are charged.

At the restaurant, we had our very own table assigned to us. Menus were offered in English upon request and the staff spoke excellent English. On the first night at the restaurant, we had a large lunch and was not very hungry. We ordered two small plates to share. To our surprise, the "small plates" were about a foot long and were piled high with food. The next morning, we ordered our four course dinner meal at breakfast time and a short newsletter accompanied the newsletter. Breakfast was a feast. They offered no less than 12 different breads, 9 jellies, fresh squeezed orange juice, and in contrast to other German breakfasts, eggs that were not too runny. This was one of the best breakfast spreads I have seen out of hundreds of hotels.

The location was good, not great, so use of a car or bus is needed. The hotel also provided some local discount cards to save on parking and attractions and friendly advice can be retrieved at the front desk as well.

This was the 9th hpliday we (the 4 memeber family) spent in the Hotel Alpenhof. Normally we visit them in winter but now we were there in Summer and it seems that this hotel is perfect every season. We had all kind of weather condition from the heavy rain till very warm sunny days (except snow :-)) and we enyojed all the days. During the rainy days we spent lot of tie in the wellness area which was not overcrauded in spite of the Hotel was fully booked. By the way the best time for the swimming in the otdoor pool was the morning before breakfast (who cares the rain if the pool is heated and the view of mountens is fascinating). During the sunny days we visited the Eagel's nest (part of Hitler's former residence, almost 2000 m high) Travel to there via bus in the special mountain way is fantastic. We were on the Königssee on an electric ship (tickets can be bought in the hotel reception. I recommend a journey to the Upper Lake and walk to the other side of this lake where you can drink a good bear or a very fine Alp milk), and we were in the Jenner (up with cable car, down on foot...). And we always enjoyed the hotel fascilities after the excurtions (fitness center with numerous fitness equipment, sauna, table tenis, pool). And finally a perfect dinner every evening. My wife prefered the halfpension (5 course!!), and we (I and the two children 13 and 23 years old) ordered from the menu, and everything was very fine in every evening. The staff was very professional and very friendly. We booked family room (named Hocheck) which is a very good choice for the families. For the children there is a bunkbed (I have to tell you that the upper bed can be a litle bit warm during summer, but it was not a big problem). The view from the balkon (to the mountens and the forests) is fantastic.
Summary I can recommend this hotel for everybody (pars or families, summer os winter, a la carte or halfpension, to rest or to be active, skiing or swimming, everybody will find the best in the Hotel Alpenhof). We will go back in winter (10th time :-)).

Room Tip: Roms with south balkony has a fascinating view to the mountains (end the pool).

Two years ago my husband and I took our oldest two grandchildren, ages 10 years, to Europe for their first time. Now, this year, it was time to take our youngest two grandchildren to Europe. On our first trip we stayed at Alpenhof and as soon as we departed, we knew that we would return with our next two grandchildren. On this second trip, our first stop was at Alpenhof. This stop was by far the best one we experienced during our nine days in Europe. It is difficult to know where to begin - so many, many fabulous amenities and experiences!! I shall list a few just to give you a quick overview. The hotel family is far beyond the words "caring and excellent." They catered to our grandchildren like they were a prince and princess. The afternoon tea time was so exciting and tasty! Every afternoon they looked forward to the most decorative and delicious ice cream dishes along with a buffet of meats, cheeses, etc. It was a meal within itself. After tea time, a swim in the fabulous indoor and outdoor pools were a must. Now for dinner (you need to enjoy half-board) - all the courses were so delicious and the beginning salad bar with all the items you can imagine along with cheese, breads, meats and grilled vegetables set the stage. Now comes the parade of courses. :-) My, the food was outstanding and the service was impeccable! We stayed in a family room and it was just perfect! We had a separate room for the children with a large bunk bed and then the master bedroom had a king bed along with a large sitting area. Out to one end of the sitting area was a glorious balcony where we could see the beautiful Alps. Our whole experience was "magical." May I please assure you that if you stay at this splendid hotel, you will not want to leave. I have nothing but rave reviews to give this beautiful hotel. You will love it!! I must add that my husband and I have traveled throughout the world (we are travel agents) and we can say from the bottom of our hearts, you are one of a kind and "Thank You" to the whole staff at Alpenhof. You are magnificent!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in Family Room Hocheck and it was fabulous! Separate room for children with large bunkbed...

We stayed 2 nights at the double deluxe room. It was a good stay. Though the hotel is kinda pricey, the room and service did worth the money. We had walked to the Lake Konigssee at the first day we arrived. It was a nice 40 minutes walk. We didn't buy the half board program. There are many restaurants around the lake and Berchtesgaden. However, if traveling with kids, I'd suggest to buy the half board so that all can spend more time in the hotel. In addition, there's a large playground for kids. Parents can enjoy their dinner while they can still watch their kids.

If i won lotto, i'd like to stay there for 2 weeks!

We have stayed in many excellent hotels over many years but this is simply the best in every possible respect. More so because it is privately owned. It is quite a large hotel but has managed to keep an intimacy which makes guests feel immediately at home and GENUINLY welcome. The staff, all dressed in local costume, could not be more friendly and could not do enough for the guests. The weather was not great during our stay in May and one evening, as we sat in the comfortable lounge, a passing waitress noticed us and immediately came and lit the log fire without any prompting from us.On another occasion, when the car park was unusually full, the previous owner who still lives on the premises, noticed and offered us a place in his own garage! - it is this attention to detail that sets this hotel apart from any we have known. As for the food and facilities, they are wonderful. Breakfast offers everything you could desire, beautifully fresh. Dinner is a 5 course meal, with a super starter buffet and delicious varied courses to follow. And the afternoon cakes complete the gastronomic delights! The hotel has wonderful facilities - 2 pools, sauna, fitness suite, beauty suite, children's playroom and billiard room.and it was a joy to swim in the outside pool, accessed directly from inside, so no shivering on the edge, with the lovely grounds and the snow capped mountains in the background. Our Alpenrose room was 34 sq. metres (large!) with loads of storage space, a large and comfortable lounge area and balcony overlooking the grounds. The area has lots on offer - Salzburg, half an hour away, stunning Königsee, mountain walks etc.
We cannot recommend the Alpenhof too highly. And its prices half board are very reasonable. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Alpenrose rooms which are large and very well appointed and quiet and overlook the...

Breathtaking views! Secluded hotel but close to all the major sights. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. Was great having a drink on the patio while the kids enjoyed all of the activities...bike riding, swimming, tight rope, sauna and more. Breakfast was fabulous...especially our own personal table. Highly recommend. Only negative is we could not stay longer. Thanks for a Great Stay!!

Room Tip: Edelweiss rooms were great
