Our trip to Germany was a wonderful experience and one my wife and I will not soon forget. At the top of my list of great places is the town of Berchtesgaden and this is precisely because of the ZUM TURKEN on the Obersalzburg. The hotel has amazing views and tremendous History. Having never stayed in a traditional German Guesthouse, we had no Idea what to expect. We could not have been more pleased. Both my wife and I agreed that there is no place else to stay if you are in Berchtesgaden. Breakfast is included in the price and it was fantastic, more than enough to hold you until dinner. The rooms were spacious and neat as a pin. Monica, the owner is truly delightful and very eager to help make your trip to the area a pleasurable experience. We are truly in love with the Turken and can't wait to get back. We think you will love it too. Don’t miss out on this historical experience if you are planning a trip that includes the Salzburg/Berchtesgaden area. You will not be disappointed.

We spent two nights there in early May. The rooms are large and comfortable and the views are breathtaking. Make sure you have a look at the pictures in the lobby. This hotel has a fascinating history and there is much to see in the area. Take the high road drive.

This is one of the most unique hotels you will ever stay in! The history alone is so compelling but the hospitality and charm are equally over the top. Be sure to ask about the unique history of the zum Tuerken itself and things Frau Sharfenberg's family did in the run up to WWII to ensure it exists for all to enjoy today. And, don't miss the Kaffee and Apfel Struedel!

Spent two nights at the Zum Turken in October of this year and had a wonderful time. Frau Scharfenburg was a gracious host and continues to offer visitors the same great experience that her late mother did. The view from the Turken is fantastic and it's surrounded by so much history on all sides. We could view the historic Eagles Nest from the hotel and visited it the next morning. It's located adjacent to the ruins of the Berghof, the Documentation Center, the Platterhof Hotel and other historic sites and the hotel itself offers a glimpse into the historic past. The breakfast was fantastic and the hospitality was great. Highly recommend this hotel as an experience you won't soon forget.

Room Tip: Get a front room on an upper floor if you can for an excellent view of the valley below and the Town...

There's no denying why people go there: the scenery and history. Combine that with fine German hospitality at Zum Tuerken and it's a perfect time away from everything since this place is a time capsule. Miss Scharfenberg now continues the tradition from her mother and you won't be disappointed. Reminder: please don't act like you're in the USA and respect and embrace the German culture while here.

Room Tip: Room 6 if traveling with family.

Takes you right back to the 40's, almost like you were part of the era of jack boots and nazis. This hotel was taken over by Hitler as his Berghoff was right down the road, and it was used to house his security people. The hotel is clean, comfortable and still run my the family that owned it before Hilter took it away from them. Breakfast is great and much care goes into setting it up. Get a room with a balcony and private bathroom. You will have a lovely view. The bar is self-service, Come here for a historical experience and go back in time, you won't regret it.
Bunkers are underneath, do not miss visiting them. Take a walk on the path to Hitlers Preferred teahaus, overlooking Berchtesgaden valley (across the road around the back side of the golf course) or walk down on the same side of the hotel and visit the remains of Hitlers Berghof. Browse some of the old photos displayed in the hallway from the 30's and 40's. Truly a unique experience and I pray that it stays that way, If you want fancy and up to date, drive up the road in the intercontinental... I prefer history.

Room Tip: Balcony with private bath

Nothing changes at Zum Turken and yet nothing stays the same.
Fantastik location, warm welcome, breathtaking view from the room, quite, history, cosyness.
Downtown is only 3 km away if you need shopping, walking excursions, bus trips, You want culture? Salzbug is 20 car minutes, Bad Reichenal, Munich. Go there.
