“Adorable GuestHouse”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

Here is a guesthouse that is tucked away up a winding, narrow road, with flowers spilling out of the window boxes. Our room had two bathrooms with showers, and twin beds in the end part of a living room, and a double bed in the bedroom, plus we had a balcony to sit out on. The breakfast was very good and included. It was close to the shopping (walking distance if you want to do the hill), and both the Eagle's Nest and salt mine are nearby. English is a little difficult at this hotel, although they are friendly. Parking is on site, but tight. Internet was kind of spotty, and we didn't get on easily, if at all. There is a computer in the main lounge if you need it. This hotel suited our needs, except it was very hot when we were there and it didn't have air conditioning, which most hotels do not. If you want authentic, this is it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the mountains, it's a pretty view.

The view is stupendous of the mountains and the Eagles nest. Get a room facing south with balcony. Rooms are clean and comfortable. That is what gets the stars. Negatives.... Forget trying to get there by bus from train station. No information and bus stop is not that close to try and find. Take A Taxi- 8 euros but worth it you will find almost impossible to find with out local help. Staff was very unhelpful and not interested it giving information. We had to discover how to get to sights ourselves. No one in office, you had to ring for service. Told dinner was available. No one in dining which was okay because many choices in town. But just say no dinner. No Sauna. Uphill journey back from town is not small hill, bUt worth the view. Would have liked at least an offer of ride to train station that would have taken them all of 10 minutes.

Room Tip: Room 19. No smoking balcony and view of mountains

Our room was of average size, with average decor, but if you get a southern-facing room, the views are fantastic. I'm not sure that we would have ever found the hotel without GPS, as it's up on the mountain on a small winding road. The hotel's breakfast was the typical light European selection, but with above-average breads and jams and two hot plates usually filled with eggs and sausages.

The price of the nice views is that the hotel is located a bit too far from town to walk. I'm sure you can walk, but it would be quite a hike back up the hill. The brauhaus in town is excellent (you can park at the nearby elementary school lot in the evenings).

The town square has several shops to buy lederhosen and dirndls - there's one fellow in particular who's been in business many years and has a famous shop - called the Lederhosen Stangassinger.

Overall, we enjoyed the Hotel Krone and would definitely return.

Locating the hotel was a bit tricky but we loved the location. Our room faced the mountains and Berchtesgaden so we enjoyed amazing views from our balcony. The room was divided into a bedroom space and a living room space. The bathroom was a bit small though. We walked/hiked up and down the street to town for dinner. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious with many choices.

The view from the hotel is amazing. Our room faced south into the town of Berchtesgaden and toward Mt. Watzmann. We spent most of the early evening and night just sitting out our balcony and taking in the view. The room was fine and very clean, but we mainly enjoyed the balcony. I asked for a south facing room, which is the side of the hotel with the great views. The route to the hotel is a little tricky, a tight turn up the hill and very narrow street. We’re from Illinois, so we’re just not used to driving on hills. It’s about a five minute drive into Berchtesgaden, which is where we ate and the town there is really nice.

Overall, the hotel is well cared for and well maintained. The dining room and parlor are cozy and comfortable. The only negative I have to note is that there is this crazy little kitten that I thought (at first) was stray, but it seems that he lives in the hotel. He’s clearly bored and just wants someone to play with, but I’m just not a “cat person” so it bothered me.

Last thing, I really recommend the Konigssee if you're in this area. It's touristy and not too cheap, but the scenery is breath-taking.

This is a family run hotel which offers breathtaking mountain views on one side. On a clear day you can see Hitler's Eagle's Nest on the mountaintop from the balconies that face that side.

Getting to the hotel was a bit of a challenge. The road leading to the hotel has a hairpin turn and, closer to the hotel, is extremely narrow. Still, we consider it worth the beautiful view.

It is a short drive to the World War II bunkers and Eagle's Nest, and not too long a drive to Salzburg.

The rooms were fairly comfortable and clean and food was quite tasty. You could walk down the hill for other eateries in the village too.

Overall, I would return to stay here again if I were ever to visit Berchtesgaden again.

We stayed 2 nights and were pleased with the location and the town. The actual directions to the hotel were complex, as we missed the turn to go up three times. Once we knew how to get there, it was very easy to get around. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant, choosing to eat in the neighboring areas. The breakfasts were very good.
