“Great system of caves and can explore the underground”
Reviewed 10 November 2013

A great tour of the salt mines! Great for kids and there are 2 slides - one of them shorther than the other and a miner's train at the end to take you out. A pretty big sourvenier shop, free salt mined from the mine itself. Several tranquil underwater lakes that have a undisturbed reflection and a few movies explaining the history of this ancient mine. A steep climb to get to the mine though so make sure you're pumped up. A very good place with a reasonable fee, kids will love it and so will you!

“Fun and interesting, must do experience.”

Fun for the whole family. Kids will love it. You get to dress up as oldtime miners, go down a long slide and get a group picture at the end. I recommend this attraction.

“More amusement than sunbstance”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

There are miner's train carts and two slides, all of which kids would like. There also is a short boat ride. The small amount of substance is scientific and does not deal with the business aspect at all. We were given what they called an "automatic audio" device which went on by itself but you had to be in the right place in the room, something no one told us. The live guide spoke only in German. There were no opportunities for questions so we learned only a little about salt mining. Thus, the tour reminded us of a beer company tour except we did not want to use or buy any salt. To us it is something I guess you do once.

“Great rainy day attraction”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

This tour was really interesting, since we knew nothing about salt mining. And who doesn't want to have a little fun sliding down a wooden slide?! We found this to be a great rainy day attraction and were happy we did it.

The only issue was that they don't have a cash machine onsite, and there's a minimum amount you can charge on your credit card at their store. I would have bought something but didn't want to drag pounds of salt back in my suitcase because I didn't have enough cash!

They also have a cafe next door in case you want to get some coffee or food while waiting for your tour to start.

“Salt Mines!!”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

This tour had its pros and cons I would suggest going on it if you have the chance.

Starting from the beginning... we drove here and could not figure out how to get into the parking lot, there was an exit but no entrance nearby. And no signs pointing towards parking. We ended up parking about a half kilometer away and walking.

The place was packed because it was raining out (as warned by Rick Steves). We weren't going to be deterred though even though we had over an hour wait til our tour started! The problem is there isn't very many places out of the rain to wait, so we went to their over priced restaurant. I had the Weiswurst with potato salad which was all very bland, and my husband had tomato soup which was also not very good. The waitress messed up our order and brought him Goulash, but made it seem like we had screwed up not her.

Finally it was tour time!

Pros:
You get to wear a jump suit!
Fun ride into the mine on a fast train
Leaning a lot about how salt is mined
You get a little thing of salt to take home that was mined there.
English audio tour included
The slides were fun!

Cons:
A lot of hurry up a wait.. wait for your time slot to be called, wait for your jumpsuit, wait to ride the train into the mine.
Overdone light shows would have enjoyed the mine without that
Expensive for what it was
No photos allowed
Too crowed I couldn't see some of the exhibits.
The audio tour doesn't work until you are close enough to the transmitter (within 3 meters)
