we spent 2 nights there, after having met up with friends ( former neighbors). The views were outstanding, the rooms comfortable, the breakfast outstanding. Quiet, relaxing, with hikes and spectacular scenery. It was their 'Ruhetag' when we arrived, so we had to go in search of a restaurant near by. Wound up in a nearby place, sitting on a terrace, with cows grazing just below us. Good food, good beer, good company. Something called a 'Ofenschlupfer' for dessert. Looked like a mini volcano, even sharing it we couldn't finish it.
We went to the Eagles Nest and did the tour of the Salzbergwerk. Perfect way to enjoy Berchtesgaden without having to stay right in town.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a balcony, so you can enjoy the view of the mountains and meadows.

My husband and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon and we had a great time. It was our last stop after Munich and Salzburg, and was a welcome change with the quiet and somewhat remote location. It was cozy and cute, up in the mountains overlooking the town of Berchtesgaden. It had that typical Alpine look that we wanted. The hotel restaurant was excellent (menus are prix fixe though) and the lobby seating area was awesome, with a central fireplace and cozy atmosphere and windows overlooking the scenic view. The outdoor patio was beautiful with great vistas of the surrounding mountains and valley below. It actually snowed one night we were there in early April, which was fun. The price was great and it's a short drive into town (about ten minutes, but not really an option for walking) so it was only a good option because we had a rental car. The only downside was that the rooms are outdated and feel very 70s and kind of gloomy, but this wasn't really a problem since we didn't spend a lot of time in the room (I didn't take any pics of it). The staff was great and very friendly. The cute younger woman who worked there always served us cocktails in the lobby at night and we met some other friendly visitors there. We had a really great stay, and I would definitely return here in the future.

We stayed here while visiting Berchtesgaden. The hotel was very nicely decorated and the rooms were spacious and clean. The staff was helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was standard for what you come to expect throughout Europe which isn't a bad thing. The hotel location is up on a hill with beautiful views of the mountains. It was a great view during August so I imagine during the winter it is an even more amazing sight. As far a location for visiting the sights in Berchtesgaden, it is a terrific location with everything only a few kilometers/miles away. The wireless is a few Euro and is only available in the lobby area (but there are plenty of places to sit). I do wish the wireless was available in the rooms but under normal circumstances, most people shouldn't need it because there is so much to see (my wife and I are taking online classes so we needed it). Getting to the hotel is a little tricky but once you get the windy narrow roads down, you won't have any problems. Absolutely us a GPS though. Overally, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Berchtesgaden. We traveled with our 11-month old and had no issues.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony overlooking the mountains. It is a beautiful site during sunset.

Stayed for one night on a last minute trip to Bechtesgaden in late July. The hotel is a little way from the town but if you know that before you go then you can plan accordingly. We thought the hotel was really good value. One nights stay with 3 course meal was about £50 each which you can't really complain about especially given the excellent service and unbelievable views from the balcony.

We had our meal, then sat outside watching the sun go down and you could see for miles around - the views were breathtaking. They had a selection of board games and seemed more than happy to keep topping us up with beer and cocktails which was great. There was a bar inside too but we didn't use it this time.

The rooms were fine, we were on the side of the hotel so no view but they were nice and cool in what was some pretty hot weather. The bathroom was fine, clean and well stocked and the bedroom was spacious and the beds very comfortable.

Overall you really couldn't ask for more, great value, great hotel and great service, definitely worth a visit.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view (will pay a bit more but imagine it's worth it)

They treat you like family at Alpenhotel Denninglehen; guilt-inducing, grievance-airing, grudge-holding, judgmental family. The first words from the front desk were not "Welcome" or "How was your journey?" We were greeted with "You are late. Why didn't you call?" Mind you this was not 3 o'clock in the morning. It was 8:30 pm. I didn't know we had an appointment. We asked it there was anywhere close that we could have dinner and were told that it was entirely too late for dinner and nothing would be open. We drove to Bertchsgaden (about 10 kilometers away) and found a ton of restaurants open until midnight or later.

The hotel itself is fine, clean etc. The bedding is comfortable. The bathrooms are dated, but very clean and functional. As stated in other reviews, the views are very nice, but not nicer than those out almost any other window in a 50-kilometer radius. The building was built in 1980, but done up in Alpine drag that is relatively convincing. Just don't go there thinking you are going to be in a charming 100-year-old chalet.

I would say the property is isolated, but that is not 100% correct. There are no shops, restaurants nearby, but you are in a residential neighborhood so it is not particularly secluded or private.

There is very nice indoor pool and hot tub, but it is only open from 7 am until 7 pm. Worse, the sauna is only open from 4pm until 6pm. When my partner tried to use it at 5:30, he was told that it takes 30 minutes to warm-up and by then, it would be time to close. Why even have the thing if it is only open 2 hour per day?

If I had my trip to do over, I would stay in one of the hotels closer to Bertchsgaden.

Room Tip: They do NOT accept any credit or debit cards.
