Katrin and her husband welcome you into their home like family! We had a fabulous suite which was a complete suprise for us!!..The Waterbed was warm and comfortable and the balcony offered a stunning panorama of the scenic town of Mittenwald and its famed cable car (Karwendel). At night you can stare at stars, actually see the Milky Way a shooting star or two if you're lucky. Behind the guesthouse is a chair lift and various treks through the woods and to lakes - absolutely worth it. Katrin can tell you exactly where to go!

For breakfast you will have fresh home made breads, jams and a variety of cheeses, cold cuts, eggs and coffee, hot chocolate, juice..whew!! Katrin very kindly heated up some food we had brought from home in her microwave for us too!!

It is totally worth the money. I would go back here in a heartbeat!!

The hotel is a short steep walk up from the city so if you have bags and no car, hire a cab!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the balcony / terrace!!

Spent just 1 night here with my wife and 2 sons (11 and 16). The pension is located a short but steep walk above town. It has 3 rooms with really spectacular views. Location is great for hiking, Food at the restaurant was very good and the hosts were friendly and accommodating. We'd definitely come again but next time we'll stay a little longer.

Having eaten in the restaurant a few years ago, we decided to stay here for a five day break to do some walking both in the immediate area and over the border in Austria.

We were made to feel welcome by Katrin as soon as we arrived and were ushered to a lovely bedroom with separate lounge area and fantastic views.

Breakfasts, prepared by Andreas who does the cooking, were a real treat and there was an additional surprise breakfast item offered each day:on the Sunday we got smoked salmon and a glass of Prosecco to go with our large plate of meats and cheeses and big choice of freshly baked rolls.

We ate in the restaurant in the evenings during our stay and were impressed by the standard of cooking, the quality of the ingredients and the wine list. It was good to see fish and vegetarian options on the menu for those who think German cuisine is just about meat.

All in all, I can't recommend this place highly enough as a good alternative to the bigger hotels in Mittenwald. The friendliness of the hosts will make you feel, as we do, that this is a place you will want to return to.

only had one night (jan `11) at kaerntner Alm but very impressed. Really a restaurant with rooms, it overlooks the village in a stately position just under the kranzbach mountain. all views are wonderful including those from the rooms (only 3 rooms !) . The restaurant serves excellent local cuisine and prices are reasonable. Breakfast is also a treat and all dining seats are booths sited at picture windows overlooking Mittenwald and facing the Karwendel mountain. Katrin who runs the accommodation side of things is very friendly, helpful and full of energy to make sure guests are happy. she speaks good english and supplies useful info.

Ours was part of a winter break but for a summer walking trip the spot is ideal as it stands at the foot of numerous well signed trails.

Mittenwald itself is a very pretty large village and is not too commercialised in the manner of many other locations in the area. The austrian tyrol is 15 mins away by bus or train.
