From the moment we arrived in reception the experience of staying at Groeblalm was just perfect, we only stayed one night but would love to have stayed a couple of extra days. The hotel is very well maintained and decorated in a slightly more up to date style that is still very in keeping with the building's heritage and Bavarian tradition, so much better than many places that have not changed in 50 years.
We had booked the Almwiesenzimmer and were not disappointed, these are on the ground floor of the hotel and have a patio with superb views of the Karwendel and Kranzberg mountains across the meadows. These rooms has just been renovated and are lovely, they are as lovely as they look on their website and are if a good standard and very clean, wholly recommended, loved the use of reclaimed wood which smelt lovely and very comforting. The hotel is still family owned and they really look after their guests and clearly care about their hotel and are planning on renovating further rooms in a similar style. My only comment is that there was no tea/coffee making facilities but that might be our British tea obsession kicking in, but I missed my early morning cuppa!! Just a small thing!
The restaurant, especially the Ulmstube is a lovely atmospheric environment, really cozy with lovely touches such as the names of the cows above the feed troughs, and glass floor revealing old farm tools! Food was typical Bavarian and cooked to a good standard with what seemed fresh ingredients and quick service. They make their own schnapps and these are well worth a try, especially if like us there was no room left for dessert, we can recommend the hot schnapps with creamy topping...Irish coffee has a competitor.
Breakfast was a well stocked buffet all very fresh.
The hotel is around 15/20 mins walk from town (bit of a gradient at the end) so for arrival you might want to consider a taxi, there may be a bus but we did not check this. That said the location is so fabulous it is well worth it and you have lovely walks straight from the hotel and the kranzberg chair lift is about 10mins walk away.
As in all of Bavaria don't expect gushing service but here it was very warm and staff happy to speak when there is a quiet moment.
A big thank you to all the staff working hard to make such a lovely experience for their guests, we hope to return in a couple of years.

This is the most cute alpine lodge. It's perfectly located just a short walk from the gorgeous Mittenwald. We can't praise this place enough. The food is superb served in the most cosy restaurant with amazing views. We stayed in a garden room which was lovely and quiet and private with again, stunning views. We have stayed in many hotels in the Alps over the years in Switzerland, Austria, Italy and this rates very highly. The little town of Mittenwald was beautiful with its painted houses and excellent restaurants. We would highly recommend this area of the Alps for hiking and scenery. Although the Grobl Alm isn't 5 star accommodation with all the fancy stuff that comes with that, we really loved it and felt very well looked after in warm and cosy surroundings.

Room tip: Garden room under the terrace

We were in the junior Karwendel suite with a beautiful balcony view of the town and the impressive mountains in the background. The room was beautiful (1 room has a double bed and the other has 2 twin beds) and authentic. Highly recommend.

This is a nicely located Restaurant, cafe, at the outskirt of MITTENWALD. Mittenwald is just at the border of Bavaria towards Austria. This cafe Features many delicated dishes, cakes, icecream and so much more, and it is located about 5 minutes with the car from the City centre. You can sit outside, look at the Alps, and enjoy life to the fullest. Pricing is acceptable, the air is prestine, and it is a quiet Location.

Every year we, a family of four, enjoy a week in the wonderful nature of the German Alps. Alpengasthof Grobl-Alm is perfect for us, since we do not seek apres ski bars or posh atmosphere, but the beauty and calm of nature. From our spacious room, we enjoy the view on the Karwendel. The beds are good (could be slightly softer, though). Staff is very good: friendly, polite and service minded. You can ask for anything, extra blankets, changing the menu, you'll hardly ever get no for an answer.
