This little B&B in a beautiful old town in Southern Germany was very clean, comfortable, and convenient to all of the local sites. Just a block from the old city made strolling the streets and meeting the local residents very easy. The accomodations included European style breakfast that was very tasty and included all of the things you would expect. The owner was right there to make sure our stay was one to remember.

We loved our stay at Gastehaus Sonnenheim and would definitely return.First of all to confirm the booking we did email in English but didn't receive a reply, so we emailed in German and received a reply the next day. Our balcony had an absolutely amazing view of the mountain, we definitely had the best view in the hotel!! Our balcony was really amazing, even though it was 2degrees so couldn't spend much time on it. The room was really very nice and spacious, and very clean. The beds were very comfortable and extra blankets were provided. The entire place is made with pine wood and you can certainly smell the pine upon arrival. Wifi was really good and fast. Our room had two separate beds so myself and my wife had to sleep separately but we really didn't mind at all, this was absolutely no problem at all! The host - was so friendly, even though she spoke little English she was really just so helpful and made us feel very welcome. And her German Shepard was a really friendly dog. The hotel is a very short walk from the station. The hotel is in a great location of Mittenwald, which is an amazing small Bavarian town, an absolutely fairy tale Bavarian town, we did notice not many spoke great English which was great for us, made it more authentic and German! We would definitely return to Sonnenheim and if you get a chance have a meal in Die Alpenrose it was absolutely to die for!! Unfortunately we didn't get any snow when we were there, but this did mean we could take a nice hike to Lautersee which was so beautiful!!

Stayed 5 nights at the Gastehaus Sonnenheim which is conveniently located between the train station and center town ( about 5 minutes each direction ). Fantastic views from the rooms and their private balconies located on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Breakfast was suffecient and with healthy choices. Close to excellent restaurants, shopping, banking and a 2 minute walk to the tourist info center. Would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Corner room #7 on 2nd floor has large wrap-around balcony with panoramic views.

My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting several German towns/cities on our recent trip, and Mittenwald was beautiful. Even though this was the one stop where we missed the Christkindlemarket, the beauty of Mittenwald and great experience at the Gastehaus Sonnenheim made this stop our favorite. The rooms are quiet and comfortable. Although it was a little to cold to sit outside, the view of the mountains from our balcony on the second floor was great. You actually have a great view of the mountains from anywhere in town. The proprietor is very friendly and provides a great breakfast including meats, cheeses, breads, a soft boiled egg and good coffee. As other reviewers have mentioned, the dog of the house is very friendly. If you are thinking of staying in Mittemwald this is one place you should check out.

My wife and I stayed here in mid-October 2013 and had an awesome time. The location is less than a 5 minute walk from the train station and the rooms are awesome... much larger than your average European sized room (closer to an American size). They're also furnished with authentic wood everything, so you feel more like you're staying the night at a relative's house in the Bavarian Alps than staying at a B&B or hotel. Additionally, we had a really nice little balcony that overlooked the mountains and was full of red flowers and a little table/chairs. The homeowners don't really speak English, so unless you're studied up on German, have someone else book the room for you (we had the hotel staff in Munich handle it for us).

The town of Mittenwald is nothing short of spectacular. Definitely spend at least one full day here to enjoy the small town and (very moderate) hike up to the lakes. You can also take a quick bus ride (5 minutes) up the mountain to the lakes then hike back down. The hike down from Lake Lautersee is beautiful... tons of waterfalls and amazing scenery at the Lake itself. Out of a two week honeymoon in Europe, our time in Mittenwald ties with Vernazza, Italy as our favorite place to have visited. Wish we had stayed another day or two.

By the way, breakfast is included and it's pretty stellar. Great food, great views, and charming breakfast room.

Our room was cute, quiet, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. View was beautiful! Easy walk to the quaint town. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch with our coffee, watching the house dog (who was adorable!), with the incredible view!

My husband and I stayed here two nights in May . This is a very quiet and cozy property . We booked a double room - which we got - but our beds were end to end . We just laughed about it - the view we had of the mountains from our balcony more than made up for it . The furniture was the sturdy wood furniture that is usual for German hotels - the bathroom was very clean but the shower was rather tiny , also typical for alot of German properties .There is parking onsite which is very convenient .We snuck out of the hotel the first night at 9:00 after we napped to get over our jetlag - the place was dark as could be .It was like sneaking out of your grandma"s house ! Mittenwald is a sleepy town but we found some locals who welcomed us into their local pub - and it was a great night ! Watch the stairs if you come in late ! Breakfast is yummy and more than suffucient to start the day and the proprietor is very helpful . We didn't see the dog until when we were checking out but what a friendly dog he was - overall a great stay and we were very pleased with the hotel and Mittenwald too .
