On a long stay in souther Bavaria when you had enough schnitzel, the Trastevere is a perfect alternative to traditional German cuisine. We stopped in on the night Germany played Algeria in the 2014 World Cup.

The atmosphere here is great with traditional Tuscan decor and wine that flows to all guests. The wine selection is quite large and the variety of drinks served is equally impressive, to include the Augustiener variety of beer.

Traditional Italian cuisine is the order of the day. Pizza is the headliner on the menu; however, the pasta dishes deliver with gusto. My family shared two pizza and two pasta dishes and there was so much food we could not finish it. All four dishes were fresh and full of rich flavors leaving us with great memories and full bellies.

Your hosts are very generous and genuinly happy with your visit. There was no single drawback here on this world cup night. For a good night of wholesome Tuscan cooking, make your way to Tastevere!

So many Italian restaurants in the US convey their food style with names that reference Naples, Palermo, Sorrento, and so on, which conjure up red table cloths, red sauce, meatballs and thin-but-well-covered pizza. But "Trastevere?" The "Left Bank" of Rome, growing ever more popular with both tourists and locals, home to an increasing number of popular, and even cutting edge, restaurants? We figured anyone who would choose that name for an Italian restaurant in Bavaria must be doing something interesting so in we went.

Turns out that it was more Sicily and Naples than Rome and not much that was Roman. But, man, was it good, with a menu that covered all the regular Italian dishes, well-prepared from fresh ingredients, served by pleasant waiters who were genuinely enthusiastic about the food. They took the time to explain this dish versus that, and to learn what we liked. Through a mix of my wife's good Spanish, my weak Italian, their pretty good English, we managed to put together a memorable dinner. We deferred on the dessert and instead finished off with coffee and a delicious homemade limoncello. When I praised it, another glass of limoncello was quickly brought to the table "on the house."

If you're in GaP, and if you want a break from German/Bavaria cooking, Trastevere awaits

Good restaurant with a wide selection of pizza and pasta. I've tried their specials from their a-la-carte menu and the food was excellent. Staff (most Italian) are welcoming and helpful.

Nice restaurant. You can sit outside and watch all the cars coming and going into Garmisch.
Food is excellent. Highly recommend the seafood dishes but everything is good.
Nice wines. Staff is friendly and very helpful.

I have yet to be disappointed in a meal from Trastevere.. the food is fantastic and the staff is warm and friendly. As with most resturaunts in Germany, the service is slower than stateside, but that is the culture... sit down and stay a while.

Try the Bruschetta! it is the best!
