Stayed there the week of Sept 16. Big and beautiful older hotel Nice views from the bar area and restaurant. The front desk staff was nice, but a bit standoffish until you got to know them. We had a car so no problem parking. It is about a 20 minute walk to town. Good place to use as a base for exploring the rest of Bavaria. No air conditioning, as can be expected at older hotels but the rooms were big, clean, and bedding was good. I would stay there again.

The hotel itself is dated and could use a makeover. The hotel staff seems busy with paperwork all the time, but are responsive. The rooms on the front of the hotel have gorgeous views and two balconies, but beware of noise all night long if you sleep with windows open. Not just the highway, but other guests enjoying their balconies until all hours. The back of the hotel lacks the Alp view, but is probably much quieter. However, if you are in a wheelchair or phsyically challenged, those rooms all have a step to enter them.
The restaurant staff were all very good and the food was excellent.

We stayed here based on the reviews of other travellers, and basically found it to be very nice - wonderful indoor pool, great sauna, etc. - and wonderful views from some of the rooms as the hotel sits on the edge of the hill overlooking the town. HOWEVER, we would probably not stay here again based on its location (there is something fun about staying right in the village, walking distance to all of the cute shops there - the Atlas Hotel in that sense looked perfect), and just for the record I would also note that some of the service issues were a little lacking:

First - the baby crib problem. We requested a crib with our reservation and it was not there upon arrival, OK, but even when it was delivered it was a completely defective portacrib without a proper bottom. They had this huge comforter with adorable caterpillar bedding so of course it looked great on the surface (of course, who uses a super soft down comforter for a baby, so we were hesitant to use this) and underneath the bottom was missing so the "x" of the bars under neath was directly under our baby's back. It was completely unusable as a result, and given the drama we had in even getting the crib we simply moved the baby to our bed and were happy to be checking out the next day.

Second - the rooms decore. If you are lucky you will get a corner room with sitting area and great view (make sure to request this specifically as a condition of your reservation), but otherwise the rooms are dark and dingy - very old fashioned and not that great for the price.

The pool is great but a little cool so not all of us were willing to go into it given the weather was already cool. The sauna was great however, highly recommended.

Parking is easy and the buffet breakfast was great and the restaurant staff was extremely friendly and kind to our little ones.

All in all, a great stay but for us personally we would rather stay in town next time so that we have parking right in the town.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room with sofa area and views in both directions. Also ask for a high floor.

Stayed with the hotel January 2011. My only question was "how could I make such a reservation???".

Location is more or less ok, far from the city center though. However with a big free guest parking. This parking is the best thing in the hotel.

Restaurant serves one of the worst breakfasts in my life. Can't say that a'la card service was much better. Please never go there for a dinner, spend 10-15 minutes and you are in the city center full of great places with moderate prices.

Rooms are spacious though sometimes strangely location. For instance mine could be reached only by going to the 2nd floor by elevator, then going through long corridor with rooms, then going down 1 floor by foot. Nothing ugly here unless you're with your luggage.

Last renovation was here ages ago and this can be seen on the walls and heard on the floor making funny noises as you go.

Can't say anything bad about the view. My room had a balcony with mountain view. Looks good, but nothing special. Mountains are pretty far and you enjoy mostly the "valley view".

Driving up to the hotel is quite impressive as it sits on the side of a mountain just outside of town. We (two couples) were pleasantly surprised at the grandeur of the hotel. Our rooms were very spacious and the bathrooms were the largest of all the hotels we stayed in during our two week trip. There was free wifi as well as a computer to use. The hotel did not seem full, but the staff told us they were so most people must have been out and about. The dining room was too pricey for us for any meals. The bar although very well appointed lacked any livelyhood. There was a piano, but not pianist or music. Our rooms had nice balconies. They also had refrigerators in the rooms. Our refrigerator was empty, our friends was stocked and they also had a coffee maker. Which the young lady at the reception desk informed us was left in the room by mistake (she was not very friendly). Over all, it was a good stay. Too far to walk into town for me. If there had been room at the army base hotel, we would have stayed there instead. Had it been available, I would have rated this experience as good, not very good.

We stayed here for two nights and loved the place. Beautiful old hotel, nice large rooms - we had one with just awesome views of the Alps and the natural beauty surrounding the hotel. Staff was very friendly, polite and helpful. Very comfortable beds, clean large bathrooms, plush lobby and halls, generous breakfast spread and reasonable room rates. You will need a car - parking is free and there are more than enough parking spaces. Location is very nice - about 2Km from the center and close driving distance to all sights. We will have fond memories of this place and recommend it !

Room Tip: Ask for room with the mountain views

The hotel is on the outskirts of the city but very convenient to everything. They upgraded our room to a mountain view. The rooms were clean and decorated in a Bavarian style. There is a nice pool on the main level. It was off season so the hotel was empty. In ski season, a hotel closer to the ski area would probably be better. The best part of staying here was the buffet breakfast and the views of the mountain from the dining room. The staff was very nice and helpful in giving us directions. The girl at the desk suggested we through the gorge in Partnachklamm. It was amazing! It is a moderate hike that requires good walking shoes. The path has a guard rail and children 5+ can even hike this. Park the car at the Ski Jump area. You get to the gorge by following the road to the right of the Ski arena.
