“Best food in Germany!”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

We did not stay at Gastof Fraundorfer but we did eat there twice. It was, by far, the most delicious meal that we ate in all of Germany, possible in all of the world. The food is outstanding! There was also a very fun, little traditional German musical band of 3 men playing. But the best part, was the shuplatter dancers. A group of young teenage boys ride their bikes up and around the streets, in traditional clothes, stopping to perform the shuplatters dance at restaurants. They are really cool! The energy, the music, the dance, the yodeling was all very cool. Everybody at the restaurant had a blast, it was so much fun, we didn't want to leave! The hotel inside is stunningly beautiful! This is a real Bavarian experience, in a historic, beautiful hotel!

My family and I stayed here two days as part of a self-guided tour package with a half pension. Rooms were OK, the dinners were OK, and the breakfasts very good.
The hotel was noisy at night because of the guests (although the owners tried to calm them down). Apparently a lot of the business here is through tour groups. There is nightly Bavarian music and two boys come in and do a slap dance.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a real treasure; I would advise walking around both villages, the gorge, Olympic Village, St. Anton's, and the Garmisch outdoor shopping area.

We were in Garmisch in somewhat of an off season so we were fortunate to get one of the top floor rooms with a view of the Alps. The room had a small balcony overlooking the street and was very comfortable. The breakfast was exceptional with a great selection of everything imaginable and the choice of eggs to accompany. It was very convenient to have the restaurant downstairs.although we only ate there one evening, and enjoyed it.

This is located on a quiet street. The rooms were nice, and the staff friendly and helpful. The setup is perhaps a bit unusual, as you walk in you are in the dining area and they don't have a separate front-desk area. That wasn't a problem, though. At night they have a traditional Bavarian dinner. The only way it didn't meet up with our expectations was the "Alpine dancing" show. We had friends who stayed here several years ago and really enjoyed it, there is a sign that encourages you to make dinner reservations so you can see the show, so we were looking forward to it. What we got was a guy playing the accordion (he played pretty well) and one dancing teenage boy who with the frown on his face seemed to wish he was anywhere but here. A few minutes per room and he was gone, only to reappear to pass the hat.

To sum up, nice place to stay, skip the "show"

We really enjoyed our stay here - the breakfast was delicious and our room was very comfortable. The staff even went out of their way to accomodate my allergies at breakfast, which was really appreciated. Loved the area, and it was wonderful to just have to walk downstairs to enjoy their dinner with the live music and entertainment. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in Garmisch!

The Hotel has a combination of rooms and appartments. We were fortunate to be able to take an apartment on New Years Eve, having been disappointed by another hotel in the general area. We were also able to take part in their New Year celebrations and meal and were made welcome by everybody. Wonderful Holiday, we will go back again.

Room Tip: All rooms are traditional Bavarian style and no noise apart from the church bells and cockerell in t...

We were introduced to the Frauendorfer by a Bavarian friend 30+ years ago - it was an iconic institution then with the legendary Peppi and continues to be today with daughter Barbara. It is a charming Bavarian hotel with a fabulous ethnic cuisine restaurant. The rooms are warm and comfortable each with its own distinctive decor of exemplary Bavarian painted wooden furniture and a sumptuous Bavarian breakfast is included. For many visitors, the restaurant is the focal point of this inn and it is actually where you enter the hotel. The evening charm of the restaurant is accentuated by a performance of traditional Bavarian entertainment including music, singing, yodeling and shoe-slapping dancers.. AT Christmas time weekends the charity auctions are so much fun. What do you visit a restaurant for? Food, of course. Frauendorfer serves the best ethnic style you can find anywhere in Bavaria - for the family, it is an imperative of pride fulfilled. The house Goulaschsuppe, Schweinshaxe and Cordon Blue are our favorites. It all goes down so well with the Paulaner on tap. The charm of the dining room is accented by a generational Stamtisch (regulars table) that even includes ladies these days - look, but don't sit unless invited. If invited it is an extraordinary honor. Locals understudy for years to earn their place at the table - a delightful tradition. At breakfast, we were always amazed at the shear size of the eggs, especially the boiled eggs - those Bavarian really do their very best for the Frauendorfer. For us, it is a must visit when in Bavaria. Zum voll, Gemütlichkeit! Enjoy to the fullest, you will not be disappointed. Access is easy by taxi or bus from the G-P train station, don't worry, the drivers will know where it is!
