What a beautiful place!!! We just loved the location, and Eibsee is just SO amazingly beautiful!! If I should ever travel to the Garmich-Parten Kirchen area again I would stay here, without a doubt!! It's worth the extra monney! The SPA area is very nice, and you get slippers and a bathrobe in your room to use here. You can rent a nice bike for only 6 euros a day (cheap), there is a cozy bar there and the service is very good. Nice staff! Why would I not give this resort "Excellent" then? The rooms need a little update...boring and typically 90's. We had a "woods view" room, wich means you dont get to see anything else but trucks that are coming and unloading food, and other stuff to the hotell (noicy in the morning)- but, if you are an early bird this is not a problem (the noice starts about 8). The woods view room is again way cheaper, and the only way we could afford staying there:). But again- SO worth it:)!!!!

We stayed at the Hotel Eibsee for a few days in November 2010. The hotel was very quiet - between seasons - and because we wanted a few relaxing days, this suited us very well. Great location, with the lake and Zugspitze on the doorstep; and wonderful walking and trekking opportunities. The hotel, as other contributors have noted, is very much on its own: it's about a half-hour walk [or ten minutes on the very handy bus] through the woods down to Grainau; another ten or so to Garmisch. So, you need to come here in the knowledge that you'll probably eat here each evening. This is no bad thing, if you're staying for a few days: the food is quite good, with excellent breakfasts.

The hotel isn't, as other reviewers have noted, ultra-modern: rather, it's cosy and 'gemutlich': we thought that, while it could certainly do with a little renovation and while its prices are a little high, it was a good choice and one with which we were pleased. The quality of staff and service, by the way, was excellent throughout; and the lakeside sauna and relaxation suite is to be recommended.

One point: in terms of room views, you do get what you pay for. We chose the 'wald' side of the hotel, and it was a little dark. I imagine the more expensive lake-view rooms have fantastic views.

Overall, we're be pleased to recommend the Eibsee.

We stayed for a few days in October. It was snowy and cold, but beautiful. The location is nice, becuse it is surrounded by beautiful scenery. It is about a 15 to 20 minute drive outside of Garmisch. There are no other restaurants close by, so you end up eating here. The food was good, but it is pricey. I think the hotel could use some updating. Things are looking a little shabby. There was a huge stain on a rug in the restaurant. The room was fine, again a little updating would be nice. The servers in the restaurant work very hard. I can't say the same for the bartenders in the little bar off the lobby. The breakfast buffet offered many choices. The price for daily internet was 13 euros a day and that was the highest price we paid during our European trip. The prices really do add up when the euro is so strong against the us dollar. I think the best choice would be to stay in an apartment in town.

We were lucky enough to stay a few days at the Eibsee during a heat wave. It added up to perfect timing allowing us to going walking in the mountains when it was cooler during the day then relax by the lake by the hotel private single beach. We stayed half board and the food was very good and a nice evening walk around the lake after dineer rounded off a perfect day at this welcoming hotel.

Lovely Hotel in a very beautiful location directly on a lake. Small beach with sun loungers and jetty to swim from. Indoor pool, sauna etc. Very clean and really helpful mutli-lingual staff. The room was very large, 2 double beds and a partial lake view with balcony. No air-con but it was exceptionally hot this July, an unseaonal heat wave. Fantastic breakfast with loads of choice. Free parking. Location is away from the main town but this makes it very peaceful, would not hesitate to recommend and hope to return one day.

A stunning hotel at the base of Zugspitze, the tallest mountain in Germany, and at the shore of Eibsee, a lovely alpine lake. While September is the best time to visit with perfect weather, there is still much to enjoy at the hotel when the weather is cold and rainy as it was for us. The food at the two restaurants is top notch and the service was fantastic. Our junior suite had a small room for our 2 year old daughter, complete with "Curious George" picture, child's bed, and lamp. The Finnish baths with sauna and steam bath were great and very relaxing, as was the indoor pool. Definitely worth a visit.
