This is something you must see. Tour was fabulous. I could of admired the art and interior decoration for hours. Magnificent details.

There is a very clear walking path to the top, we didn't want to fuss wirh rhe buggies or bus. At a good pace we walked to the top in 25 minutes.

Busy place but plenty of parking. Very well organized to handle the large crowds.

We visited the castle in June. The drive to the castle was very scenic. The walk up to the castle took a while, but was not over-taxing and was a gradual climb. Once up by the castle there is an amazing suspension bridge, definitely worth venturing onto - the views are awesome - good pix opportunity. Once at the castle it is breathtaking, the castle itself and the out of this world post card perfect views from the castle!!! Tons of pix were taken!! The tours of the castle were very organized and informative. The inside is as amazing as the outside and as the beautiful setting. At the end of the tour there are two gift shops with many nice items that were not too tourist overpriced. We visited as part of a tour group, so we didn't have to deal with getting our own tickets. A must see if you're ever in Bavaria!!

This is the castle that Disney modelled his Magic Kingdom castle on and it looks stunning. You need to take the bus or horse and cart up to the entrance otherwise it is a 40 minute hard slog up hill. There is usually a long queue for the bus but it goes quite frequently just don't leave it to the last minute to start up or you'll miss your entry time. You are given a five minute slot in which to enter the castle. When you get off the bus walk down to the bridge as it is from here that you get the ideal picture of the castle. However, be warned that this bridge gets seriously overloaded with tourists as everyone jostles for that perfect camera shot.
You then walk a short way back up to the castle and line up for your appointed 5 minute entry shot. In the queue you are warned about not taking photos but, if you are discreet ie your guide doesn't see you, you don't get picked up on it. The rooms are quite small and each group is the maximum size that will fit in so you don't get a chance for a really good look around. The guides also move their group quickly and efficiently through and the next group is hard on your heels. The rooms are all lavishly decorated and Ludwig's bedroom is amazing. There are also some fantastic chandeliers and lavishly painted walls.

This place was beautiful, the tour was magnificent, my children loved the views and history. We did our tour later in the day so we were able to see some magnificent sunset panoramas of the valley, other castle, and the lake.

Best Advice from family with 2 young kids...come early and invest in the bus or horse carriages because there is an ENORMOUS amount of walking and stairs. Also, have good shoes. Next advice is get tickets online a few days in advance. We didn't due to rains in the area and showed up day of visit only to stand in line for 2 hours, walking up hill.

Even though it was a drizzly day, we walked up which was a long walk but definitely worth the view. Don't stop at the castle -- if you keep going up you can look down on it for a spectacular view. We were above the clouds!
