“Amazing!! Time definitely required if no reservation.”

The area is breathtaking and the fact that we get to see something like that still standing is amazing! The only bad thing about the experience was the line for tour tickets, which you absolutely need to go into the castle for the tour. I knew it was possible to book the tour in advance, but since we were staying in Munich and taking the train out, I wasn't sure when exactly we would get there or how long it would take to get to the castle for the tour, so I opted to get tickets there. The wait for the ticket was honestly longer than the tour itself, but we were still glad we did it. If you do not buy tickets/tour times in advance, be prepared to stand in line for a long time and wait. If you have control over your arrival time, save yourself some time and get right to the tour and reserve your slot in advance. This will also give you time to walk around the area at the base of the castles, as well as Fussen.

“Stunning.”
Reviewed 28 August 2014 via mobile

There's no denying the castle is breathtaking but we felt the tour was a bit brief. We would have liked to go up the main tower and know a bit more about the building process. I would still recommend it as the decor is incredibly lavish!

We got a coach tour and felt the whole trip was a bit rushed, we had no time to go to the viewing bridge because one family had misunderstood the departure time. We would have happily forsaken the stop at Oberammergau to spend more time at Neuschwanstein.

The castle is quite a walk up the hill and there is a long line for coaches to the top.

Amazing trip but make sure you allow yourself plenty of time, maybe take a packed lunch on the coach tour to have time to go to the bridge!

“Worthwhile”

This Disney inspiration is imposing and striking especially in juxtaposition to the autumn foliage and stone cliff. I only wish Mad Ludwig had stayed on task a bit longer and finished this opulent beginning.

“Enchanting but PLAN in advance”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

This is a breathtaking area and experience.

Do not travel all this way and not take the tour, it is well worth to see inside even for a cost!
Make sure to book well in advance of any visit because if you miss your time slot or have to wait I have heard it can be a pain to wait around for the next tour.

We did book in advance and got there early with plenty of parking. There were not a lot of people that I ever felt it was overcrowded.
You cannot take pictures inside either castle but this does speed up the process somewhat even if it is a shame you can't capture the incredible interiors.
The tour guides did not know a lot of additional information on the history of the castles etc but they explained the basics well enough.

We booked the tours for both castles and prepare to walk!!! For us it was an enjoyable walk but we saw people struggling with babies or slightly older people. There is a horse and carriage to minimise walking but this is costly and not at all faster. There is still a steep incline after the horse 'bus stop'.

The Neuschwanstein castle iteslf was breahtaking. I mean it really was like something out of a fairytale. Further, the inside fits along with this theme. Unfortunately the interior of the castle was no where near finished but luckily one floor was completed to an incredible standard (just the bed in the bedroom took 5 years to craft) and you get a glimpse of what was intended.

Also, do not forget to go to the viewing bride, where you can see all of the castle from a great distance. The rickety bridge is scary but I am assured it is safe, even with 100's of tourists crammed on.

Don't even hesitate to visit this castle and the neighboring castle also. Book the tour and enjoy the magical fairy tale part of Bavarian culture.

“Disney is a copy Cat”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

Wow, well worth the effort to get up. A must when in the area. Do not miss this castle. Disney world and Disneyland castles are copied from this this magnificent castle. Mad Ludwig was many things but a genius when it came his Castles.
Go Early and you will enjoy it all the more. no lines and tickets easy to purchase if you have no reservations. Do not miss your tour times...well worth the entrance fee am ust see attraction.
