We followed other TA reviewers advice.... skipped doing the tour, just went and got bus tickets for the trip up to the Mary's bridge, where we had a great view of the castle and got some good pics. The bridge does get crowded mid-day, so go early...or late in the afternoon when the sun is in the best place for pics of the castle.

We didn’t go inside the castle as we were very short in time but had a bus ride to the bridge that offers a nice view of the castle and it was unique and breathtaking like a fairytale castle. Its clever if you take a rain proof jacket with you as the weather changes a lot up there. You will have a nice view of the northern side of Alps too. The front side of the castle has the nicest views but unfortunately it was under construction while we were there. Cable car also gets a very nice view of the front side of the castle too.

I have took a horse carriage to ride uphill which cost euro 6.00 per person and downhill in bus which is much cheaper euro 1.50 per person.
This combination was a very bad option. The opposite would be more comfortable and time saving.
Uphill - In bus euro 2.50
Downhill - Walking or horse ride euro 6.00

The castle as a whole is very nice in its structure, I am not sure if there is so much to see inside or not since i did not went inside for the audio tour.

Audio tour has to be booked from downhill in the ticketing office. If you arrive at the ticketing station, the next earliest audio tour available will be after 2 hours or more.

So come early if interested to know about the castle and its history in detail, else book online through their website.

Ticket for Neushwanstein will cost approx euro 13.00

There are lot of parking spaces with certain payment downhill. No personal vehicles are allowed near the castle. Plenty of souvenir shops available before and after ticketing office

The castle is definitely worth visiting if you are in Swabia or Bavaria. The castle is beautiful and the walk to and from is through a well maintained forest. Tickets online were not available so we took a gamble and got there before it opened. We arrived 15 minutes before they opened and were about 5th in line for tickets, you must get tickets for tours to go inside and you must buy them at the ticket building, not the castle. We got the first tour and it was not full, we to an audio tour that used a hand held speaker available in many languages. The tour goes through a few rooms of the castle, they are beautiful but left us wanting more, the tour was short and basically just described the rooms. The guided tours we passed seemed to be getting much more information by very knowledgeable people. I think the tour is a must even though we thought it could be improved on. As we left, the crowds started to show up, buses and buses of all sorts of Asian tourists that were shockingly loud and pushy, we had grown accustomed to the German's strict but polite nature. The food and souvenirs in town are over priced but you might as well do it, it is a fairy tail place after all.

This is a beautiful castle- top of a mountain. It is historic- and the Disney castle is modeled from it. There are three ways to get up- walk, bus or horse carriage. Be aware- the easiest way is the horse carriage, but they are VERY slow and unreliable. We had friends waiting for a carriage in line and they realized they would miss out tour and had to walk up. It is a fairly long and steep climb- the bus is easier than walking, but with a hike at the end that is harder than the horse carriage. No matter how you go, be aware that people with mobility issues are probably not going to be able to make it. When you get to the castle, there are more stairs and only a few rooms to view. At the end, if you can- walk to the hanging bridge to see the views and take photos from there.
