Visited here for 1 night 2 days with family. Amazing experience - thanks to a great location of hotel, right in middle of everything. Very kind & helpful staff - right from check-in to check-out everything was smooth. Don't forget to put the parking sticker in the car. It was wonderful to get the tickets to castles from hotel directly (we asked for them 1 night earlier) - avoided all the big lines at ticket. Once can get the horse carriage right outside hotel too. Hotel also have Free WiFi.

The older man at the front desk spoke English and Spanish as well as German but seemed condescending and rude. My husband had enough and pulled his chain a little by saying the "Disney castle" and he was appalled. Forgive an ignorant foreigner for not being able to easily pronounce neuschwanstein but he said that castle and pointed to the wall, beyond which must have been the castle. The tickets were late in the morning and had we not already hiked up the night before, we would have worried about missing our tour but we knew we had plenty of time. What the hotel and map say is a 40 min hike is more like 20.
The younger, less fluent, young man was actually very helpful and directed us to other sites on the way to our next destination.
Room and bed were fine, free wifi worked.

First off, let me say if you're going to see the castles, you can't get any closer than this! But, that's about the only reason to give it many stars.

I've read lots of great reviews on the rooms, but I can only comment on ours. We had a room on the back, only ones left. It was tiny. We could barely move around the bed, and there was nowhere to put our bags. I did notice later on there was a spot ABOVE the armoire. This would have required me to lift a 30lb suitcase 7ft in the air each time i wanted to get it out of the way.

The bedding does not meet the standards of a hotel charging this rate.

The restaurant was very good. We had breakfast each day, included in the price, and it was great. Dinner was also good.

My biggest complaint is that this area is extremely crowded with tourist during the day. That is understandable, but they congregate on the steps of the hotel. It doesn't really offer relaxation. Although, after 7pm it gets extremely quiet.

Parking is available, but if the hotel is full, you'll be parking on the street with the masses of people walking by your car and bumping into it while taking photos of the castle.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They were some of the friendliest and most helpful I've ever come across!

I would suggest staying here the night before you visit the castles, then leaving that afternoon and heading into Fussen.

Room Tip: Avoid the small rooms on the rear of the hotel

We had stayed in this hotel before and knew that we were returning to a first rate accommodation. This time there were 5 of us: mom. dad, two teenagers, and a grandmother. We stayed two nights and toured both Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. The carriages stop right outside the hotel to go up to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau can be reached by a easy climb beginning at the back of the hotel. The hotel restaurant is excellent and the breakfast buffet amazing.

Room Tip: We like the rooms that have the outdoor patios that look up to Hohenschwangau castle. However, it r...

This traditional, beautiful hotel is in a fantastic location right in the center of the village within short walking distance to everyting (except neuschwanstein but you could still walk). During the day there is lots of activity and the hotel is busy but after the big tourist buses leave around 5, 6pm everything gets quiet and tranquil and you almost have the vilage to your self.

We stayed here for 2 nights in May 2014 and it could not have been a better experience....What a place! We did all of our booking online and via email.
We decided to purchase the Castle Package: minimum 2 night stay for 2 adults and included ticket to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castle (right behind the hotel reachable by foot 10 minutes), a horse drawn carriage that picks you up in front of the hotel at your scheduled time to Neuschwanstein, and buffet breakfast each morning.
This was a GREAT deal and we opted for the more expensive option of Castle Package with a Deluxe suite...wow!...a great room, very big with a view of Neuschwanstein perfectly framed by our living room window/glass panneled door that led out to our incredible outside terrace (shared with 4 other rooms but you have your own table and chairs) and more views of the castle, village, and mountains. Fortunately no one was staying in either of the other 4 rooms on the terrrace... so the entire huge rooftop terrace was ours.
Inside the room was a large living room with couch, coffee table, chair, flat screen TV, antique (probably reproduction) bavarian style dresser and end table which had complementary bottles of wine with glasses...a nice touch. The other window in the living area opened up to the main street in front of the hotel.
The bathroom connected to tthe living room and was spacious with a big shower and a window that opened to the terrace and let in lots of natural light.

The bedroom had a queen size bed with large wooden closets, a flat screen TV, a minin fridge hidden on the side of the bed (disguised as part of the bedside table) and a nice alcoved window with table and chair. The 3 windows in the alcove all opened to the street in the front of the hotel..it was very nice to leave these open in the day for the breezes and the sounds of the village.
The decor of the room was very bavarian and very nice, very clean. Could not have been happier.
The public areas of the hotel are all very nice and cosy..very Bavarian and service is friendly. You arrange the time you want to go on the tours with the front desk when you check in.
Self car park is available on site and is free.
There are 2 restaurants but it feels like there are 3 as the outdoor dining area of the main restaurant is on the opposite side of the hotel. The main restaurant is nice wit hseveral nice dining area and a sunroom sitting area. We ate here twice (once in the main area and another on the outside patio on a beautiful day), the service was very good and friendly. We each had the the special appetizer of asparagus soup (May is apparently peak season in central Europe for asparagus and every place has a special) it was delicious and fresh. For an entree I had the Medallions of pork fillets with a creamy champignon-sauce and Spätzle...excellent! My partner had the Plate of Seasonal Vegetables and Potatoes..roasted, huge portion..enough for 2 people and tasty. Our second time we sat on the pleasant patio for lunch under an umbrella and watched all the people and activity go by. I had one of the plates from the "Dishes if you are in a hurry" section of the menu...Roast pork sausages with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut..super good! My partner had the spinach strudel with tomato sauce also very good and surprisingly light.
The morning of checkout we missed breakfast but the kind woman at the front desk told the woman at the restaurants other restaurant Bistro (smaller items..sanwiches etc..) to let us have anything we wanted at no charge....very nice of her.

We really enjoyed this hotel, locationm staff, room, and food..it all raised the bar pretty high for some other village/town hotels we would be staying in soon and none of them, though good, could match this place. It is worth coming to Germany just to stay in Hohenschwangau and to stay at this hotel. I almost did not write this review as I don't want the hotel too known but I think the word was out long ago. Oh well.

Note: Another nice touch...free fruit is brought to your room everyday at mid day while you are out.

Room Tip: The deluxe suite was amazing, great views, a terrace with chairs and a table.

Location betwen two castles and free parking space is just great there. Huge traffic on the road between Fussen town and Hohenschwangau gave us idea that it was a perfect choice if you would like to see castles and not looking for a paring space far away from castle. Friendly and english speaking staff at reception, huge and clean rooms with nice view (not my cup of coffee with antique furnitures inside but very comfortable) and best breakfast I had from years :) And I love bavarian folklore costumes of restaurant staff :) I'm really happy with this choice. Highly recommended!

Perfect location to see the castle as stress-free as possible (there`s is A LOT of tourists in Hohenschwangau). The hotel located right next door to the ticket office which is very practical.

The hotel itself has a very professional, organized and effective staff. This is a hotel who has been in the same family in over one hundred years, which adds a certain atmosphere. Even though they seem to have done substantial re-decorating they have kept some of the touches that tells you that this hotel has history. The rooms are a bit small, but very clean. Ok breakfast and good value. We had good internet in our room and the restaurant in the hotel also has good service and food. Our room had a view against the back of the hotel. This turned out to be great, because we had silence which is a rare luxury in this area during daytime. It can be very hectic :)

I would absolutely recommend to stay here if you`re going to Hohenschwangau.
