We have taken our chances and again visited Gattopardo during our latest stay in the area. In fact like previous times the atmosphere, friendly service, and above all the delicious food, paired with lovely local wines (some are not easy to find and also not always on the menu) made get back there a few tikes during our few days stay. All the of the menu is good, but we especially like the fish and vitello.
For us this one of the best Italian restaurants ueberhaupt, but certainly in the wider Munich area.
Strongly recommended.

We had dinner here with a small group of 4 and enjoyed it very much, so much that we went back the next day wi two of us to try several other courses on the menu.

The pasta with black truffles (try to find the pasta under the truffles slices), the starters, the fish and meat (for instance the Charolais beef is grilled to perfection), all are of good quality. The atmosphere is great, a little kitchen almost, where you see the food being prepared. The service is very good, swift, professional and friendly. The kitchen and restaurant run like a clockwork.

The wine list is solid, with really nice wines, be it that the prices are not low.
Also the desserts (e.g.the blatterteig with fresh fruit) are great. If you go here try to special dessert wine, the Fragolini, something special you will not find somewhere else easily).

It could be that our experience is truly a one-off.
Normally I am not moved to write a very dissenting opinion on a restaurant.

1. The photos showing an empty restaurant and taken at table level do not reveal that the majority of seating is in fact bar stool height. Even with a table reserved for dinner for two, we were perched at a small square table in the window.

2. We ordered white wine which was not cold, nor even cool. The waiter said when we ordered it that he would put it in to chill immediately, which would indicate that this is not a one-off.

3. Don't expect a quiet conversation over candles. It was loud, and we had to move regularly to let the smokers squeeze out and in. The kitchen is also open to the restaurant which should be nice in that you can see what's happening, but we were not reassured by what we saw.

4. Italian cuisine; be prepared for dishes prepared with butter instead of olive oil. NEVER had Linguini Vongole before which solidified at the bottom of the dish as the butter cooled... my partner's did. Her favourite dish; she can consume it every night we are in Italy. After a few mouthfuls she gave up on it.
My fish was reasonably well cooked if under-seasoned and rather shoved onto a plate in bits. It came with a side plate of stone cold vegetables which tasted as if they would have been good if warm.
The level of disappointment was rapidly obvious and clearly expressed. The waiter was very friendly and apologetic, and acknowledged it was 'unusual' to have 'some' butter, but declined to have one prepared with olive oil and without butter. We didn't bother accepting the offer of a completely different dish instead. Mottoe - Dessert and go. Chocolate sponge with a liquid centre; we had seen it on its way to others... looked good.

5. One pudding OK, the other split open and running over the plate before it arrived at the table. OK, it can happen... but the centre was barely warm (thank goodness it was mine not my partner's).

6. That the Vongole (Venusmuscheln) was taken off the bill was presented like a gift.
98,50 euros for 3 wasted hours. The waiter was sour that there was no tip. Two half decent starters, one substandard main course, an OKish dessert and a bottle of white wine at close to room temperature.

We were in the restaurant for 3 hours. We had paid a taxi to get there and get home. I must say others around us seemed very happy with their food - but we won't be back.
