“lousy hotel, not impressed”
Reviewed 19 July 2013

I found this hotel very disappointing. First of all, I got stuck in the lifts twice because it wasn't working properly and I got stuck in there for about 30 minutes before an engineer finally came and sorted the door out. The staff were kind enough to let me have a bottle of water from their machine free of charge as I was sweating and had to complain about this. The bathroom in my room wasn't too great either. Whenever I put on the tap water to wash my hands, face or brush my teeth the water would fill the sink up so quickly and when I turned the water off it would take at least half an hour for all of the water to go down ( I am not exaggerating ). I can understand and appreciate the fact that this is only a 2 star hotel so it's not going to live up to most people's expectations but I still expected better. This was just poor. The only good things that I can say about this hotel is that it's less then 5 minutes walk to the main railway station and about 10 minutes walk to 'Marienplatz' (the main heart of the city and most touristy area). However, I would never stay at this hotel again.

The hotel's only 5 minutes walk from the Central Station, which makes it ideal when you arrive, leave and go on shorter trips by train. It's also a short walk to most attractions and the Underground.

The hotel itself is very basic. I stayed for a few nights and got a family room - 4 beds and a crib. So it must be a good alternative for families. Staff was friendly and helpful, there were basic snacks always available and wifi in the lobby (or you can pay for it in your room). The hotel was clean and quiet, though it might be more noise if your room faces the road. I didn't try the breakfast - lots of cheap food options at the train station after all, and a supermarket too.

Best thing - this hotel is smoke free.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the inner court are quiet.

The hotel is definitely not good looking, the room was very basic and not so clean. Don't expect to have a good night of rest, which is disappointing for a 100€ night.
The staff is useless and not really kind.
Well, this hotel is robbish.

The hotel was basic but adequate. It was in an ideal location as it was within walking distance of the train station and the Oktoberfest grounds, which was the purpose of our visit.

As it was Oktoberfest the price was quite expensive which made us begrudge spending an additional 4euro for a sub-standard breakfast. They were happy to store our luggage on departure day and the staff were friendly and helpful.

I thought everywhere had free wi-fi nowadays.

This was our second stay at the A&O City Hotel Munchen. We have stayed in both the hostel and hotel part however in my opinion they were not too different. That was not really a problem though. We knew what to expect. We have stayed in a number of different A&O hotels across Europe. The benefit of this hotel is that it is only a 5 min walk along flat ground to the main train station which makes it perfect for early/late trains or day trips. It is about a 15 min walk from the hotel to the centre of town. Providing you do not book in Oktoberfest time or at times of certain conferences or conventions, this place is very reasonably priced and provides an adequate and comfortable place to sleep. Our room had a double bed, desk and chair, tv, cupboard, heater (not that we needed that), balcony and a bathroom. The bathroom was pretty small but really, we were only there for 4 nights so it was fine. There is no air conditioning here so we did sleep with the window and balcony door open some nights. We were staying in the back part of the hotel so it wasn't really noisy at all. They have wifi here but it can be a bit of a hit and miss as to when it will work. My only gripe about the place would be the cleaning. It appears that the cleaning staff seem very stretched and will do all the main jobs like making the bed, taking out the rubbish, changing the towels etc but some of the other jobs seemed a bit overlooked. My mum ended up cleaning the bath herself. All in all we would be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back part of the hotel are quieter.

Me and my family had the oppotunity of sleep in there during the 31 of December of 2012 was a horrible experience, we found no beddings on our bed, not curtains in our rooms, untidy and unclean rooms, plus the Hotel just let the guest to behave in such a bad ways disturbing the sleep of the rest, letting them get drunk, scream and banging the doors during the late night and the early morning. Is simple the worst hotel ever in my whole life of travelling around Europe, and such a expensive s^*%t

Room Tip: None of them!!!

Dear Patricia,

thanks for your views on your hotel experience in December. We're sorry that it seemd to be so unpleasant and loud.

We would like to apologise for the trouble at the time and forwarded the matter to the hotel manager.

It can sometimes be really hard for hotels to get bad behaving guests under control. We try our best to ensure a good rest at night for our guests. However, we seem to have failed at the time you stayed with us. Again many apologies.

We do hope you've still had a fabolous trip through Europe and got home safely.

Kind regards,

Your A&O Support Team

I stayed here with two friends as part of a eurotrip and unfortunately we had to book a room for four in order to have a private room, which meant paying for four people. I decided this would be ok because i had stayed in a and o in other cities and was always impressed. We also needed the ideal location next to the station for onward trips.

Overall i did not feel we got any value for money at this hotel as the room was quite small and had a noisy tram running past it outside, which would wake us up until it stopped running for the night. There was also a funny smell in the place, and there was little room for three of us in the room let alone if there would have the normal occupancy of four.

The breakfast and other drinks and snacks were overpriced especially as we had paid so much for our room, so luckily there were bakeries and other things nearby instead. This is a pity as there is an attempt to create a communal atmosphere with the seating area downstairs but i did not want to pay so much to sit and drink there.

My positives however are the convenient location, the staff were friendly and the place was clean enough. In the end this is an ok place to stay but the price did not reflect the standard of the room and this is why i i am unable to give it a better rating.
