We arrived in the early part of dinner service, and managed to find a seat at a table without a reserved sign on it. There was a German menu on the table, so we used it to make our selections. No English menu was offered.

While we were in the restaurant we watched the waitress in a different section move about 3 sets of people that sat down at an unreserved table to different tables in her area, before finally leaving the last fellow that arrived at the table. As we arrived we saw 3 people leave with out ordering with very uncomfortable looks on their faces after a discussion with that waitress. (not sure if this has something to do with the uneven reviews this place has or not) Our service as quick and pleasant, I gave it a very good rating. If we had been in the other section it might have been quite a different result.

The chicken breast fillet with the potato/cucumber salad was good, as was the Dunkel beer. Dining here will not take long unless you are into having more than one beer. We found this place as we had wandered down a less busy street to get away from some of the crowds you find in the touristy areas of Munich.

Recommended by a local businessman when looking for somewhere to eat. Traditional fare, only a couple of english menus. More of a local eaterie, soak up the atmosphere. Be prepared to share a table. Hardly any tourists visit this place. Off the tourist trail.

Recommended by a local businessman, when we were looking for somewhere to eat. Full of locals, so be prepared for few or no tourists. Only a couple of menus in English. Be prepared to share tables. Good food and drink and a great atmosphere.

Having visited in a couple similar places during the visit this was clearly only average. It is a typical place where you have large tables and may end up sitting with others which usually pumps up the athmosphere which is a nice thing. That night the place was nearly packed too, mostly with locals I suspect - not many foreigners around. Their English menu for example was very different from their English or German menu on their website (and English menu didn't have prices like the German menu did, guess they don't need to update it so often then)...

Anyway, we ordered and it certainly took time to get the portions but it was nearly full so no harm there. However the service is extremely amateurish since the first meal to our party of two was delivered nearly 5 minutes before the other person got his food! Sure, it may be some local custom (?) but it is plain rude to me if you come in as a group of two and the other has to wait so long for his meal.

Food quality was only average at best - I've had much better local portions. As mentioned, this is not a touristic place while it is within walking distance of everything important. And the prices do reflect this, it's rather cheap. Could be a very nice place with the splendid athmosphere but the food kind of ruins it.

Be prepard to brush on your German, the ladies do not speak English. One did, but we had at least 4 different waiters serve our table during the night - very strange that too (= no tip for sure).

Really enjoyed the food and the Bavarian ambience. The British in me resented sharing a table with strangers, especially as we had our 5 year old with us who was being a bit winey (moaning, not on the booze!). Still the food was fantastic and really reasonable. Bravo Germany!
