“Amazing hotel with the value of money we paid !”
Reviewed 28 October 2011

We stayed there in October and we really liked the concept of this hotel. Very nicely decorated and very clean with agreat location, 5 minuets form train station and 5 minutes walk to the city center. Rooms were very small and we didnt order a cot bed for our 2 years old we as read some reviews about the rooms being very small, so we thought to save some space which was not a problem for us. Make sure to bring your own Tissue box and soap as they dont provide these in the bathroom, they provide a shampoo and body wash which we used as a soap and we had to buy our own tissue box which i found it abit weird. Other than that rooms very clean and bathroom very modern and clean, breakfats is worth it and i would recommend it within the room package. Free interenet in our room as well which was very helpful. for the value of money i think this hotel is worth it.

A great hotel with excellent comfortable rooms and friendly helpful staff!

The snacks in the lounge were very tasty without having to nip out when tired.

A great base to explore the city. We visited Munich in December for the Christmas markets - they were delightful. A particular bonus was the mini-Christmas market practically just outside the hotel!

There's also a very tasty bakery just around the corner - turn right out of the hotel, and then right when you reach the next turning!!

Let me start by the fact that, to me, this is a HOTEL not a MOTEL (as we understand it in the USA). I can honestly say that a 4-star rating is well deserved on this 2-star facility. It is brand new with great facility, wonderful design and colour appeal. The hotel has everything that a guest would want. The rooms are well furnished and the bathroom is functional, clean, new and comfortable.

The morning breakfast was great and had excellent varieties of beverages and cold cuts in addition to bakeries.. Last but NOT least is the location. The hotel is 400 meters from the U line which you can use to access Munich's efficient underground. A day trip is Euro 5.4 and it can take you withing the inner city circule. If you want full access to the city, including the airport, the it is Euro 10.8 per day.. The hotel is easily accessable from Munich Airport. Take the S train to the Central Station and then hup on the U line (U1 green line) to reach the hotel through the Wettersteinplatz Station. From the Airport to the Hotel I paid Euro 10.80 and I had a full day access to every U and S line in the city all day.. Marienplatz (the heart of the touristic area) is 5 stations away from the hotel..

Room Tip: All rooms were great although some rooms may have a poorer wireless connection than others. It happe...

The Motel One is a fabulous high value/low price franchise. The rooms were immaculately clean and stylishly modern. Not huge, but we didn't need the space as we were outside most of the day. The breakfast is varied and satisfying.
However, I would encourage everyone to double check their bookings to ensure they are booked for the right days. I tried to confirm three times by email but was not replied to. When we arrived the booking was not complete and we had to wander and find another hotel for the middle night of our stay (which required us to pack and bring our bags elsewhere and then do the same to come back to Motel One the next day). If possible I would phone them to confirm as emailing clearly did not work for me.

Cost of hotel and its location make it a good choice for the budget traveler. Opt for the breakfast, for not only is it a good value, the choices and quantity will set you up for an entire day of sight-seeing. However, expect a somewhat chaotic scramble for seating and slight waits at the food counters. Just be patient. AND please graciously thank the very hard-working yet pleasant breakfast staff who set places and stock the counters. I watched them for three mornings...never lost their cool when people were jostling them about as they restocked food items, just quietly and very efficiently did their job. If I were Motel One's CEO I would give them an increase in pay and feature them in the company newsletter, because quality service given to customers, as they did, is worth more than any advertising campaign. There was one nasty front desk woman there who needs a course on customer service, BTW. Other front desk personnel were great...pleasant and very accommodating to non-German speakers.

CEO,I I would CEO

Room Tip: front facing rooms noiy if you have window open. elevators slow...lower floors, fewer step to climb

Motel one has a hip feel when you first arrive into the lobby which is almost always bustling with activity especially late night. Breakfast comes with soft boiled eggs, fruit slad, cappuccinos, fresh baked rolls and more. The rooms though are VERY basic. No phone in room so if you need anything from the front desk like a new Internet voucher (which you need a new one everyday and often they do not work so you will need to get another one or two or three -- very frustrating --and often you will get kicked off in early evening when usage is higher. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Pillows and bed not comfortable (pillow like a pancake). Overall, Munich amazing city and were barely in room.

Having stayed at Motel Once Berlin Alexanderplatz previously, we decided to start out two week tour of Bavaria and Austria at this hotel. We booked three nights at the beginning of our break and one night at the end before our return flight. We booked through Booking.com, although the prices were very similar to booking with the hotel direct. We booked three nights in a standard room (all that was available through Booking.com) but then read about their roof terrace rooms on the hotels own website. As this was a special trip (to celebrate mine and my partners 30th birthdays) I decided to contact the hotel directly to enquire whether it would be possible to upgrade. The hotel responded to my enquiry more or less immediately and were extremely helpful. They informed me that it would be EUR20 per night to upgrade our booking which I decided would be worth it on this occasion, but unfortunately they only had this type of room available for our first two nights.

Upon arrival our room was not ready, but we were there about 4 hours before check in, so this was expected. We decided to explore the town which was only a 5 minute stroll away from the hotel. Unfortunately it was a Sunday - BE WARNED! Nothing is open on a Sunday, and even many of the beer halls/restaurants were also closed! Coming from the UK we were not expecting this at all! So we had to waste a few hours in KFC as we had arrived during bad weather and were soaked through from the rain!

We returned to the hotel and check in was fine, we went to our room on the 6th floor, and were amazed at the size of it. Having stayed in Motel One's before, we knew that the room sizes were quite small, but this was a large room, with wardrobe, desk and a fairly large ensuite. The added bonus of course being the terrace outside, which came equipped with a Motel One colour scheme deck chair! The view from the terrace was great, and you could even see the Bavarian Alps in the distance, but sadly for us, the weather was grey, overcast and rainy for most of our stay.

When we made our booking there was no option to add breakfast, but we decided to pay for it the next day (plus there was the added attraction of wi-fi in the room when you paid for breakfast). The breakfast was a very good selection and was constantly replenished so you could eat as much as you wanted. No one seemed to actually check whether anyone helping themselves to the buffet had paid for it, however, so I expect that a high number of people just turned up and helped themselves!

All in all our stay was great, Motel One does exactly what it advertises. There's no unnecessary frills (although there are toiletries and a hair-dryer in the bathroom), but everything is of a high quality with good design features and well maintained. We had the minor inconvenience of having to pack up on our 3rd day and check out in the morning, only to check in again later that day to a standard room, but that was our choice.

I would definitely recommend Motel One to anyone visiting Munich, particularly the Sendlinger Tor hotel as the location was great, with the Marienplatz a five minute walk away and a U-Bahn station literally a few steps from the front door. In hindsight, looking back over our two week trip and having stayed in 4 different hotels, Motel One wins every time :o)

Room Tip: We ended up staying in three different rooms at this hotel during our holiday, and the roof terrace...
