“Very high grade hotel for a budget price”
Reviewed 6 September 2012

I was staying in Munich for a couple of days to visit a conference and our whole group stayed at the Motel One (Sendlinger Tor). The hotel is very clean, fresh, decorated nicely and the staff is friendly. The breakfast was pretty standard but had fresh bread etc. The room was smallish, comparable to the usual rooms in London or New York. Bed mattress was of high quality and pretty stiff, just the way I like it, and I slept like a baby.

The hotel location is pretty perfect, really. It's from a walking distance from the absolute center of Munich and the closest metro stop is about 100 meters from the hotel front door.

The only real problem is the WiFi, which sometimes let me read a couple of emails in the morning, but in the night it was pretty much stuck, nothing going through. For a business trip that was obviously a setback. I have to confess, though, that I didn't complain about the WiFi to the reception.

Overall, a great hotel and excellent value. Just don't expect the WiFi to actually work.

The 'Motel One' concept is a winner for travellers like us. This one at least was spotlessly clean, chique, with excellent beds, lovely towels, functional design, an excellent breakfast, and an incredibly good location in a great neighbourhood with interesting cafes, restaurants and shops (if you go in any direction other than Marienplatz). By cutting costs on crap you usually don't want or use like bad toiletries, stationary, pens, a phone, alarm clock, safe, excess chairs and space, Motel One is able to create very nice, excellently located, inexpensive accommodation. (Note that if you're an American travelling in Europe for the first time, the rooms will probably be too small, and if you're a Kiwi, be warned, it's not the kind of motel with a kitchen in it.... )The only big let down is the Wifi. It was totally unreliable and kicked us off every couple of minutes so we had to log in again, and again, and again, and again. And we paid to use it. There was no 'free wifi' in the lounge as promised. Unfortunately, if I was travelling for business (and on global roaming), I could not stay here on that account. But if I'm travelling for leisure in Munich again, I'll be back.

We enjoyed our one-night stay at Motel One. The room was big, the bedding comfortable and the hotel lobby very pleasant. The only strange things were a) that the shower and toilet "rooms" were on opposite sides of the room and b) there was no hand soap provided, just multi-purpose body wash shampoo. I'd like a little bar of soap for the sink, please. The location of the hotel was pretty convenient--a 10 minute walk to the main train station and 5 minute walk to Marienplatz. The area surrounding the hotel is very cute and safe.

I loved my stay at this hotel. The hotel is literally about 100m from the U Bahn (underground station) and from great shops and a lovely Irish Bar (with great food), Kennedy', within about 400 metres walk to the city centre.
The hotel is spotless, bright and very quiet and the breakfast is great value at 7.50 Euros; we even made sandwiches from this to take on day trips!
The rooms are fully air conned and the beds are very comfortable. The toilet/shower is not large but as it has a walk in shower, which I thought was superb, it doesn't need lots more room. The room sizes have been criticized but, although not large, we found them to be more than adequate for what we needed.

I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I preferred a higher floor.

We didn't realize how small small really would be until we walked in the room. If you have ever been in an interior cruise shop stateroom, this is exactly the size of the motel one rooms. Since we were only here 3 nights it didn't bother us too much but I'm not sure if we could have done it if we were in Munich longer just for the lack of space for our luggage.

As others have said, the location is great. We took the subway to get there and it was very easy as well.

The breakfast was good as well but the Internet was horrible. We had better luck using the Starbucks on the way to the Marienplatz.

All in all good stay for the price. Very clean and modern facilities. Beds were very firm.
