“excellent location, spacious rooms....average service, pricey breakfast”
Reviewed 13 February 2014

As all other reviews have stated the hotel is in an excellent location, albeit very hard to arrive at with a hire car on a Saturday afternoon. Very hard to find the entrance amongst shoppers and alleyways. No designated parking spot as was advised. As a result we used valet service, which actually just moved the car 50m to the public carpark across the road for about 30E - ouch.

Room was a deluxe with view over markets - spacious, very clean and stylish. We found the bed too hard for us (but thats a personal thing). bathroom was very nice, but with a very high step to get into the bath/shower. This would be very difficult for those with mobility problems.

Breakfast was ver expensive and no packages include it... so add in about 80 euros to eat here! Quite basic selection when compared to other hotels of our stay. Suggest eating elsewhere - but on a Sunday morning theres no choice!

So, great room and location, but hardly a 5 star experience... would we stay here again - nope.

Room Tip: deluxe rooms are very spacious

My family enjoyed one full day and night in Munich before the rest of our party caught up with us to travel on to ski in Italy. The was joyfully spent with this hotel as our home base. In the center of the old city of Munich with the Viktualienmarkt it was great fun to walk and sample all of the Bavarian foods outside the backdoor at the outdoor market and spend hours exploring the Christmas market outside the front door in the Marienplatz. The hotel was also located in the immediate vicinity of several beer halls including my favourite, Weisses Brauhaus. I can almost taste the original - tab 7.

The front desk staff of the hotel were very friendly and helpful. We had a lot of luggage which was stored on our arrival and taken up to the room. On checkout, the very friendly front desk clerk escorted us and our luggage halfway up the block to where our friends were waiting for us in their chartered party bus to take us to our next destination. I purchased a pair of skis on line about one week before arriving and had them delivered to the hotel. They were waiting for me at the hotel when I arrived. The hotel added no additional handling charges.

My wife told me that breakfast was included so we sat down to breakfast in the morning. A little on the expensive side but I was interested to see three distinct types of breakfast buffets being offered. There was a Japanese breakfast buffet (I am not sure why but I believe there is a Japanese restaurant associated with the hotel); a Bavarian breakfast - pretzel and sausage and a traditional European buffet. Next time, I will skip the breakfast and enjoy the sausages in the market as I saw many locals doing, perhaps with a breakfast beer.

Loved the common areas and the rooms which were modern, well appointed and of generous size.

Below are my conclusions on the hotel:

(A) the hotel is ideally located within walking distance of most of the sites.

(B) to access the hotel you need to go through an alleyway which could be better kept. However, once you arrive at the hotel, you will notice the nice decor and nice common areas (although these are quite small, consisting basically of a cocktail bar, a restaurant and a small living room next to a fireplace).

(C) staff is friendly and helpful when asking for recommendations. Specially the staff at the cocktail bar is great.

(D) rooms are nicely furnished, as if you were "inside a suitcase" (there are lots of touches of suitcases in the rooms...you will see it if you stay there). Amenities are good, and bathrooms are great.

(E) temperature of the room: here is where we had our problem, and why I am not granting the hotel another point in my rating. We were in the month of December, so you can imagine the cold temperatures outside. And in our case these low temperatures were also in our two rooms (in addition, we were traveling with a baby). The only solution we got was a portable heating ventilator, which obviously was not enough to heat up the room. This is something that cannot happen in a hotel like this, and which made that we did not enjoy our stay here.

All in all, a good base to explore the city, but there can be temperature problems in the room.

We were in Munich for the Christmas markets. This hotel is centrally located near the Marienplatz. The hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast at the hotel buffet one morning. It was very good but a little pricey since we don't eat much for breakfast. There are plenty of excellent bakeries and restaurants in the area. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Our room faced the courtyard and was very quiet. It is not much of a view but we didn't spend m...

Rooms are good. Location is excellent.
Flexibilty of the employees does not exist. The staff is not well trained and is not willing to help.
I had breakfast only once because it does not worth 20 euros.
Room service has a japanese style menu, without international food and it does not work for 24 hours.

Dear guest (Sergio)

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your visit and your positive feedback, especially regarding our rooms and the location of the hotel.

With regards to your comment about the room service we would like to inform you, that we provide 24 hours room service indeed. The room service menu is based on the concept of our japanese restaurant Emiko. However the menu includes modern japanese cuisine with international influences as well.

We are looking forward to welcome you back in the near future.

High quality room, smartly furnished and accessorized, 24/7 great staff at the front desk, and, for us as fans of shopping, eating, and drinking in Munich--a very convenient location. Across the street from the Victualenmarkt, where you'll find beer, fresh juice, sauces, cheese, and souvenirs. A short walk from as high end promenading and shopping as you can stand! We love the clean, safe, entertaining character of the area. Adventurous it's not; but I'm looking for no stress when I'm on vacation.

Room Tip: Street view rooms are a little more interesting, but perhaps a bit noisier. Rear rooms are fine, but...

Large room overlooking the neat open courtyard through a french balcony. Very central close to Underground, Restaurants and Shopping. We were there mainly for the Christmas market which is right next to the hotel. Hotel and rooms very pleasantly designed and welcoming. Interesting bar with many great Japanese whiskies. Wonderful stay.
The pillow not so very comfortable to my tastes. Bar prices expensive. Two single measures cost as much as half the price of a bottle of precisely the same whisky purchased from the whisk(e)y shop opposite the hotel.

Room Tip: I booked a courtyard deluxe and have no regrets even if a bit expensive at the time of the Christmas...
