This beautiful place of worship had its cornerstone laid in 1583. It developed into what I believe to be one of the two most beautiful churches in Munich. Almost completely destroyed in WW2, the restoration is awe inspiring. If you like Bavarian history, King Ludwig II (of Castle Neuschwanstein fame), his brother Otto, and a number go other royals are entombed in the crypt below.

This Jesuit church is enormous and inviting. We traveled to Munich for Christmasmarkets and after lots of walking in Marienplatz, we were ready to sit down. This enormous, gorgeous church is a great stop for any tourist. The interior is large, quiet (despite lots and lots of visitors), and extremely peaceful.

St. Ignatius Loyola's portrait hangs on the right -- founder of the Jesuits. The church was built as part of the counter-reformation by the Jesuits.

The church is an outstanding site simply for its size and architecture -- this is the largest barrel-vaulted roof outside of Rome (St. Peter's). The front of the church is also a must-stop photo experience.

It would be beautiful to see a mass here.

Another great church in this fascinating city. The altars are truly remarkable. We also went into the crypt to view Ludwig's tomb, 2€ entrance fee but worth it.

The church is gorgeous inside and outside. The stained glass windows and murals are amazing. Beautiful, peaceful and reverent interior.

St. Michael's is located right in the middle of the pedestrian area so it is a very easy stop if you are close by. The outside of the church is beautiful and unlike any of the other European churches. The inside is just as spectacular with all of the details and carvings. Don't miss St. Michael's, it is really a sight to see!
