One of life's must-dos. I recommend that you hire a traditional Bavarian dress and get into the mood. It is such a great mix of friendly local & international visitors. There is something for everyone. When we entered we saw on our right, the circus-themed Hippodrome, and were dazzled. Most of our time was spent in the Haufbrau tent. We went in the Schottenhamel, the Lowenbrau tent and the Augustiner tent too.
All happily drinking, eating and dancing, the house band was playing festive Bavarian songs. All you could do was watch and smile and join the gang. Each tent had 10000++ people. We found a place to sit and ordered our huge mug of beer. I a non-beer drinker also had a full 1litre of beer. It does take a while to consume a liter of beer but you really do not want to hurry the experience of being there. A good majority of the people in the grounds were wearing traditional Bavarian costumes.
Food is a problem if you are a vegetarian like us, so carry your snacks, sandwitches & munchies like we did.
It starts at 11 am and you better come early if you want to get a table because lots of people already have reservations so there isn't much spare room left. In the afternoon it gets so busy that they pretty much shut the doors to all tents.
There are 14 large tents, carousels, roller coasters. It is all joyous and festive. There are several kiosks selling all manner of Wiesn souvenirs.
If a non-beer drinker like me could have a blast, I am sure it is a Mecca for beer drinkers.
