Everything about my two-night stay at the Bayerischer Hof was fantastic. The rooms were huge, and the bathroom was massive. The room was also very nicely decorated, and the hotel definitely had the old charm. The staff gave us accurate directions and great dinner recommendations in Munich. The spa area was big with many saunas, steam baths, a large pool, and massage rooms. The location was great in relation to the old town of Munich and the Marienplatz station. There is not a better hotel to stay at in Munich!

I recently stayed at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich again as had decided it would be my hotel in Munich after sampling a variety of great hotels, but unfortunately it was not a good week at the Bayerischer Hof I think. The stay started out when I arrived at my room and the posts on the wall holding up the wall hangings above the bed had collapsed---a first in any hotel anywhere. Happily it happened not when I was sleeping. I called the front desk and was given another room. The new room was a little too chichi with fixtures---the bathroom fixtures in the shower didn't follow a logic as to cold and hot water and the shower door bumped into the unit on the ceiling that dispensed the water. There were also renovations going on in the hotel. And finally the porter couldn't find my luggage in storage.

On the plus side, the breakfast was fabulous and the garden room downstairs is as nice as the roof top breakfast area. The location is great and I love the bar area where the service was lovely.

I have stayed here many times, a bit of a love/hate. I like the location, the old charm, the hospitality, the quality (most of the time) But there is always somewhere in the hotel a renovation going on, this time the desk top terrace where they usually serve the breakfast. Then there is the wide variety of rooms, some excellent, some depressively dark or small. This time I had one of these small rooms. The breakfast is usually excellent, but not now while the redecoration is going on. The staff is usually attentive and very nice and of course German efficient.

We thought we were going to the best hotel in Munich. How wrong we were. We booked a junior suite directly with the hotel. The web site gave no indication that there was a major refurbishment project in progress. The whole frontage of the hotel was one big building site. This meant that premier rooms were not available and breakfast would be served in a makeshift and chaotic basement. Very naughty when you are charging top rates. The room offered to us had an ugly view of a dark internal courtyard. Since we were staying for a week we complained. We were told that the hotel was full but they could somehow offer us a standard suite at the same rate. We accepted this but soon regretted it. Faulty aircon in the middle of a heatwave, tatty wallcoverings with myriad scuffmarks and an intermittent loud noisy hum from some sort of kitchen extractor fan made this room no fun at all. Add to this incompetent concierge staff who could not so much as deliver a morning newspaper far less give any info on current entertainment in the hotel. The swimming pool on the roof should have been a pleasure but the hotel policy of letting any one in , presumably for a daily fee, meant that it was overcrowded and noisy. Lack of supervision meant kids running wild and sweaty people going straight from the sauna and jumping in the pool. Ugh.
The best hotel in Munich? Dont think so.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel.

We stayed in this lovely hotel in June-great location to shops, restaurants and Marienplatz. We were in a 2 bedroom suite in the Palais Montgelas- all elegantly decorated with lovely bathrooms, nice amenities and sitting areas.

Breakfast is served in a beautiful dining room with outdoor seating on a terrace. The buffet has everything-fruit, big selection of breads, butter, jams, cheese, ham and hot food with eggs, bacon-all beautifully displayed and prepared. Excellent service, great coffee, even champagne-a perfect way to start your day in Munich!

We had drinks in the Blue Bar Lounge-great views over Munich on the terrace. A nice setting and very popular. The restaurant looked nice too. We had dinner at Trader Vic's-always fun with rum drinks and good food. We dined at the German restaurant Palais Keller-very nice Bavarian setting with good food and service.

Our teenager's enjoyed the pool and lounging by the deck. We highly recommend this hotel for service, nice rooms and wonderful restaurant's to choose from-all very different but great to have options.

This hotel was the final stop on our trip and we were very disappointed. The first room we were given was horrible. We were to have a nonsmoking room but the minute we walked in, we could tell that the room had been smoked in. Worse, the room was dirty and there were all sorts of stains on the walls. You could see where someone had thrown something against a wall and how it had dripped down. Most of the walls (the room was painted red) were just filthy as was the carpet. We called the front desk and they did move us to a clean room--although it was quite a bit smaller but worth the move. We were to have free Wifi but had to ask to get a code instead of it being included with our paperwork. Two sinks in the bathroom--one of the faucets barely worked and the water never did warm up. Staff was very nice and attentive when we talked to them. They were very helpful especially when dealing with the key fobs and trying to open up the doors that led into the guest hallways.

Great location and impressive in look. However; to pay twice the price for an ordinary room is absurd.....unless you want to say you stayed there for prestiege reasons. Single biggest plus is its proximity to shopping.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a "new" room.
