Its conveniently located, and offers a good rest from the walking near the main attractions in the city. We got tasty beer, pork knucles and pretzels while we soak into the atmosphere. There was also a market selling local produce and handicrafts/souveniors. Would visit this place again and again if we returned to Munich.

“Great outdoor marketplace”

The "thing" in Bavaria these days is Curry Wurst. I got some delicious Curry Wurst in Viktualienmarkt, and this is also a great place for other edible Bavarian goods.

“A taste of true Bavarian culture, food and beer”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

If you're looking for something a little different to the normal restaurant experience then seek out the Viktualienmarkt.

Want a snack? go to one of the butchers/delis in a row to one side of the market and order a Leberkase semmel - Its a delicious meatloaf type thing in a bread roll, very flavoursome and very satisfying. They're cheap too. Go for mustard (senf) with it.

Want something more substantial? Sit down in the biergarten, grab a beer from the kiosk and food from another kiosk. This is hearty, filling, flavoursome bavarian grub - you don't count calories in this part of the world. Pork is the order of the day/year/eternity!

Something worth a mention here: I'm into beer, and at home in the uk, there's good beer and then there's rubbish (lager, cheap bitter and alcohol-free beer). In Germany, they don't see why alcohol-free beer can't be as delicious as the real thing. So, if you fancy a beer, but are driving, or need a clear head or whatever, order an alcohol-free beer. I recommend Paulaner, but any will be great.

Of course the market itself is really worth a look, there are lots of grocery stalls, hot and cold take-away stalls, florists etc etc etc.

Worth whiling away a few hours here.

We go here every time we visit Munich. The city of Munich rents stalls to vendors at a lower rate to keep market going. Good idea on city's part. Always busy and bustling. Fun place to look at various items for sale and businesses around market. Beer garden also a fun place on a sunny day with various Munich breweries change daily. go have a good time.
