Wow, we spent 2 weeks in Europe (1 week travelling in hotels) and stayed in 6 different Marriott hotels (Courtyards, Marriotts, Renaissances) and this was by far the nicest. When they say newly renovated on the website they mean it. Granite, marble, etched glass, stainless steel everywhere in the rooms and on property!
Greeted by a great door man, turned out to be from Chicago and has family in the VI, who helped us find free street parking (very upperclass, safe neighborhood - parked next to a Ferrari and the customary BMWs / Mercedes) and after entering the revolving doors we were presented with fruit, pretzels and coffee.
Our room was on one of the highest floors, and we were pleasantly suprised with a stocked, inclusive mini-bar, ranging from local beers to wine, soda and juice! The bathroom came with your not-so-usual amenities, including exfoliating gloves - a nice touch.
The furniture was all brand new and the TV was by far the biggest flat screen that we had seen yet in a Marriott hotel - including satellite channels in about 7 different languages!
As it was stormy and dark by the time we got into Munich, we had an early night and snuggled into our amazing bed - one of the best nights of sleep yet!
The buffet breakfast the next morning was well worth it - staff were overwhelming attentive and friendly and the buffet itself had everything ranging from smoked salmon, an assortment of bread and rolls, fruit salads, smoked meats, chef-attended station cooking up omelettes, fresh belgian-style waffles and eggs benedict, cereals, cheeses and espresso machine.
For those taking public transport, its only one block away from the u-bahn (subway). I highly recommend choosing this hotel over the Renaissance Marriott, which is 2 blocks away and really old and ghetto looking (and most likely much more expensive!)
A 10 minute walk from Englischer Garten, then just a leisurely 45 or so minute stroll through that big slice of tranquility past the ponds, and birds and Chinese pagoda...right into the middle of town at Odeonsplatz. Then as mentioned above it's less than a 10 minute ride on the u-bahn back to the hotel.
Definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
