Holiday Inn Munich - City Centre
Ranked #76 of 387 Hotels in Munich
Reviewed 10 October 2011

Situated conveniently on Leopolstrasse with a loooong walk to city centre, this hotel has what you need - clean room, ok bathroom and a good breakfast. What is not so nice is the sound from elevator, corridor and neighbouring rooms... The room was very hot and more or less impossible to air. It is ok for a one or two nights stay, but not more. I would not go here privately.

No wifi in rooms. Outrageously expensive in-room LAN. I'm a priority club platinum member- and was treated without any special designation.

I stayed here recently for one week as a business traveler. The hotel is in a good location, within a 4 minute indoor walk to the S-Bahn Rosenheimer Platz station. The rooms are typical European small, but very clean and reasonably appointed. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Minor deficiencies include a lack of hair conditioner in the bathroom (only shampoo was supplied), small tube televisions as opposed to flat LCDs, and there was no concierge. The area is within walking distance of several Italian restaurants. The buffet breakfast was ample with a station for cooked-to-order eggs and omelets which was a plus. My stay was during the Oktoberfest, so the room rate was quite high.

I stayed at this hotel for Oktoberfest and it was a perfect location. It is a 45 minute train ride from the airport which stops at hotel. If you are going to Oktoberfest you can take same train and transfer which makes it very simple. The hotel room is a good size with twin beds that served their purpose. The front staff is pleasant. The bar area is nice including helpful staff with any special requests with the food being quite good. It is a short walk to the attractions and city center. The gas station next door is good for anything you may need and also has a good croissant...go figure.

This truly is a hopeless hotel.
I stayed on 4 october.
It cost 407 e for 1 night-including a bottle of water.
This is no where near a 5 star hotel.
Front reception is terrible-there was an enormouss queue.
No doorman or porter.
they had no stamps and wouldnt post a letter.
the room was small and there were stains on the carpet.
The proice is insane at 399e.
my advice-find a clean modern hotel-this for sure isn't it.

We recently returned from a 2-night stay over an Oktoberfest weekend. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would certainly recommend the hotel.

The room itself was quite large for a European city hotel, with plenty of room to spread out especially on a short stay. Our room was clean and had a lovely view overlooking the city.

My number one priority for a great stay is a good night's rest, and I am thankful that I received exactly that at the Holiday Inn. The room was wonderfully quiet, even though the hotel was sold out, and the bed was comfortable and offered both firm and soft pillows - a treat compared to many other German hotels that seem to only have soft pillows!

The location is okay - typically we like to stay right in the thick of things, but being Oktoberfest, we compromised a little on the location in order to be able to a afford a room! The Marienplatz is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Alternatively, there is an S-bahn stop directly underground the hotel - if I remember correctly, it was 2 stops to the Marienplatz, 4 stops to the central train station, and about 40 minutes to the airport. We only used the subway system once (from the airport), choosing to walk everywhere instead since we were fortunate enough to have beautiful weather during our stay! The hotel is also next door to a gas station (including a 24-hour convenience store) and around the corner from a Europcar rental car agency.

There are dozens of little bakeries and coffee shops for light breakfasts within a few minutes walk of the hotel. However, we wanted a hearty breakfast early on a Monday morning and walked to the Marienplatz instead. This plan "backfired" as it seems cafes/restaurants don't open until at least 9am during the week, so we ended up returning to the hotel. The breakfast was quite expensive (21 euro per person) but we were starving so we ate there anyway. The spread was fairly extensive, including eggs cooked-to-order, breakfast meats (bacon, sausage, etc), breads, danishes, cereals, fruits, baked tomatoes, fresh-squeezed juices, espressos and cappuccinos, and a standard German selection of cold cuts and cheeses.

Also watch out for the pricey internet in the hotel lobby. I typically "unplug" while on vacation, but couldn't sleep one night (no fault of the hotel, simple insomnia) and went downstairs to use the lobby computer, at 7,50 euro for 30 minutes interenet access.

My wife and I stayed here on a recent weekend during Oktoberfest. We stayed for one night and used my Priority points to keep the price very low! The location is just on the outer edge of the central old city of Munich and the Hotel sits atop a subway station. The parking lot and subway are easily accessed with a single elevator in the main lobby. Totally painless to get to any place in the city. The room was standard American style fare, with a smallish TV and a well stocked mini-bar. The highlight of the stay was the breakfast! The breakfast is included in the cost of the room and is literally a room full of food of all kinds and the quality of the food, service and atmosphere is excellent! Room availability must be better than average if we were able to get a room during Oktoberfest on a weekend. We will definitely stay here again if our travels take us to Munich.
